Just started messing around in ableton a little bit, and I've come up with a kickdrum that I enjoy the sound of
I don't have very good speakers though, maybe you guys could be a better judge
I know it has a little "pop" at the end but I can easily fix that w/ volume envelope.

it s hard to tell without bassline, if you find one that fit to the kick then it s all good i guess, sound of bassline and kick on their own dont mean much cause it s really about how you will mix them toghther (but offcourse its better if they sound good also on their own imo but it s really about personal taste..)
personaly i could use a simial kick for prog but it s not the kind of kick i would use for full on. what style you want to make?

i guess your kick will be perfect then , only thing that matter is that you enjoy the sound of it.

To me it seems that it has a ring and a thumb at the end.
try to eliminate the ring and make the tail smoother.
Indeed a kick alone is what it is... a kick alone might as well make it the best you can.
