i should stop bothering.

no one "cares" anyway as you say.

abelton8 and east-west packs here i come!

But if you care you should carry on making music the way you like it and not care whether anyone cares or not

Peace out.

yah you are right, apologies. i just thought the same.

i don't know why i care, it gets to me sometimes i guess

I think people lost the plot and forgot that this scene (coming from other branches of electronic music) was build upon loops and samples.           www.beatagency.dk

Makes no difference to me. A loop is a loop whether it's melodic or not. It's someone elses premade creativity in a box and there's nothing wrong in using it as an element of your track. It's the composition that only counts imho.
As far as this conversation goes Beat Agency said it all earlier. We're basically talking about a branch of techno music here and techno stems from looping and sampling so ...            Peace, Love, Death metal

there is a huge difference between sampling your dad's old vinyls, and everyone using the freakin same packs like today. if that isn't half assed i don't know what is.

why is the composition all that matters? don't you want to hear something where the artist was creative in all aspects?

The key is to use samples and loops in a clever way which is to manipulate, cut, twist, stretch the loops /samples to an extend they are no longer recognizable. I use loops such as percussion, drums, vocals etc. and dig into the details I like and cut them up and this way build up new original loops.

I really could not care less where the samples/loops comes from. That's not the issue. The issue is to be creative!

But of course everything else in my music is recorded and played by myself. I also program my own sounds and this is where I feel the real issue is found. Way too many artists use pre-made factory sounds and end up using sounds x 100 other artists also used.

it isn't any different than using pre-made factory midi lines and sounding x100 other artists.

same thing exactly

Now I am not that much into Ace Ventura's music (Haven't listened to any of his music) to know if he use pre-made melody lines etc. But if he does his success just show that people really do not care one bit on the dance floor. And why should they? They are not into making music and know shite about sample CD's.           www.beatagency.dk

for the 1st time i agree with Beat Agency
i really think that if it were for dancefloor ppl you can put a television-news over k+b and that's fine for them, i see in every dancefloor, ppl go crazy with k+b only!
Fortunatelly record labels are also musician
and they generaly don't like premade melodic stuff.I guess.
if it were for me i'd mumbo jumbo every stuff with annoiyng sample packs-goa melody-dms-psyseed and shit

Bare in mind that the common listener that goes to parties and has a great time, does not know (neither does s/he care) whether anyone made their tunes from samples, or if the artist made every single sound of the mix, from a modular synth with no memory.

We can sit and talk about it on here for ever, it still makes no difference to commercially succeful artists and the people that buy music.

Peace out.

That is very correct. Ace rocks either ways for me.           StarLab - Label DJ/Artist for Digital Om Productions

I have never used loops, not even drum loops. The main reason being that I want to learn as much as possible. It's everyones creative choice on whether or not they are going to use loops, and what they are going to do with them, and I am not bashing people who do. I just know that for my personal creativity, the more I practice, the easier it will be over time, and it will only help me be more creative in the way I want to be. If I was always using loops for certain things, I wouldn't grow creatively in that way as quickly. I would probably get more creative with using loops, which is cool too, and i am sure useful, but its not where I want to take myself right now.

I always get sad when I hear a track that sounds extremely/obviously like a loop pack on my hard drive - like copying midi keys, atmospheric fx, and everything
