Automation is simply making a graph for a certain knob, it will move according to it. Time & quantity are the parameters there.
For the inside FL plugins the automation is very simple, you click with the right mouse button on the knob>edit events and write your wanted automation.
For vst plugins that outside of FL St Studio you do like that : move the knob you want to write an automation with your mouse, then go to the upper small square in the VSTs windows and press on it >last tweaked parameter>edit events.
If you have a midi controller you can assign knobs to it by LINK TO CONTROLLER, and then twist the controller on the midi keyboard.
Another way of writing automation, though not so accurate is pressing the recording button and spinning the knob with the mouse till you get your desired automation (works with midi controller too).
Very easy
