i do it with simple drum rolls. i sequence them as following: first some in 1/64's, then 1/32's and at last some 1/16's. and automate the volume to let the drumroll kick in smoothly.

You can either automate the volume or the velocity... I seem to have a good experience with doing a velocity trick... Either or will work just as well.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Try combining velocity)volume and pitch changes at the same time, layering your sound (kicks) without overload. Like example: pitch goes up while velocity goes down and at the end vice versa.

What do you guyz do when compression messes up your drum roll? Do you use another instance of the same drum, or if the compression settings are good, I shouldn't have that problems? Because the volume drops too low when I am using 1/16th or shorter rolls.
