Hopefiend - Out of Know-Ware (Plusquam, October 2002)

1. Squawker
2. Fizzy Fruit
3. The Crunch (Wider Mix)
4. Right Time
5. Inwards & Upwards
6. Information Age
7. Crack Down
8. Triggerfish
9. Out Of Know-Ware

THE MAN IS BACK! world wide super duper trance DJ Mark Allen is back , now with the debut album of his solo project Hopefiend.
Spirit Zone's proggy side label Plusquam is fast establishing itself as the hottest place to be among progressive producers, and this time it brings us another gem, in the form of 9 funky, groovy kick ass dancefloor tracks.

here's the promotional text:
"As a deejay and producer Mark Allen has made himself an illustrious name in the trance scene over the better part of the past twelve years. In the global trance network of activists, Mark Allen plays a part in UK’s most delirious, mental, trance-house act QUIRK. Together with his quirkster in crime, Tim Healey, they also appear as the idiosyncratically entitled 'Allen & Healey'.

Being Mark Allen’s main solo project, HOPEFIEND gives expression to funky, hard edged and trippy trance that has become Mark Allen’s trademark style. This unique synthesis of groove and refined lunacy has already inspired floors globally. Including this direct feedback Mark Allen has brought the waves of fury and illusion into a compulsive and well patterned assembly of trance textures that bustle with shockers and stompers.

An exceptional collection of some rare trance specimen, such as the Squaker put the title Out of Know-Ware into perspective. Opening with a percussive dry beat, a ***voice sample stirs it up, as archaic trance sounds and tribal rhythms unite into a dreamland yonder. All resistance is washed away, smoothed over by acid house style bassline of The Crunch, an elegant and funky builder tune with an anthemic finish. From feel good factor of Fizzy Fruit or Inwards & Upwards to prime time weirdness of Right Time, Mark Allen’s busting beats for the not so faint hearted are as the Information Age track sample uncompromisingly states 'Noisy, but worth it'.

As a matured artist Mark Allen has incorporated a library of trance culture into his newest album. Texture rich trance tunes of pure deliverance for up for it party crowds. With the whirling beat crescendo Out of Know-Ware Hopefiend has already made us beg for more."

I say get it as soon as it hits the stores...this is a must have.           the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist....
