It's almost exact.
The prices are right, but it depends on how much work u bring. If what u did at home is good quality work then in an 8 hr session u can master more that 1 hr of music - That is how much time it took me to master my album, which is over an hour ( 8 tracks ) at village studios in Herz'lia. If u want to make a work on a track or two it shouldn't take more than an hour and a half. |

Ok, so how do they expect to get from me? I mean - how should I submit the tape? Should it be processed in any way or so I give them raw material and let them break their brains over making it sound good? And how different is the result from the original, usually? Can you actually tell the difference? |

U should make the eq and the regular prucessing of the sounds in your track just as u do it usually without any change. After u have dumped it to your computer or recorded it on DAT ( Minidisk is not a very good choice of media for master ) u take the product without using plugs and stuff on it and contact some mastering studio. U can make changes in the final product if u want to do some fun style Dado ( Synthetic, Deedrah ) but try to avoid global functions such as eq to the whole track and stuff like that cuz most of the time it's not very healthy to make 2 masters on same track. |

What do you mean by: "Without any plugs and stuff"? |

I mean that if u want to make some fun with your already dumped to the computer track, such as sudden fade out/ in or to put a faze on some short part that's ok. But, if u want to put some global eq plug on it etc. then it may cause problems with your future mastering plans. |

Ok, so I can apply any effect on separate channels, but not on the left/right? |

U do the mix as always ( on the separate channels ). On the main outs u can put compressors and eq if u want to ( analogue eq/comp can add alot to the track ) but u need to know exactly what u do. Afterwards - home mastering ( before the way to real mastering studio, that is ) is not only pointless but can ruin the work in the studio. Alas, I master my own tracks so they will sound better during gigs, but when I need to give a master I give the track as it went down from the mixing board to the DAT. |
