hm... my experience with v-station tells me its not very good for leads...

to do great leads try insane stuff

start with presets and mess a bit w/ LFOs and ENVs untils you know waht they do

OSC SYNC also helps to create great leads

for me the most important in a lead is the notes you choose and how it follows the rythm

ahhh... use resonance and delay and reverb

go for phasers, flangers, etc...

There's no magic settings, in all honesty. The best leads I've found were half by accident and half knowing how to coax that extra 'spice' out of the sound.

Keep practicing with the V-Station and Z3ta, they can both make decent leads. Also check out the Discovery for classic 'psytrance' sounds.

You can also pick up Dado's (Deedrah) Nord Lead bank off of his website and import it into Discovery to reverse-engineer it. I think it needs to be converted from MIDI to .syx or something. There was a thread on this a while back.

PM me if you have trouble finding the file and I can email it to ya.

Good luck tweakin'!

oh, I should note that the osc sync feature on the z3ta is very good - I've synced Osc2 to Osc1 with Osc1 pitched down a few octaves for nice tearing leads, especially with the mod wheel controller the filter.

Well, okay, maybe there is some stuff I can think of.

Try setting an LFO to modulate the filter cutoff just a little bit, and then reduce the attack of that modulation so that it comes in after you hold down the key for a bit. Tweak the rate of the LFO so it gives a nice fluttering sound to the lead - you'll have to adjust the speed until it sounds nice.

Then as you play your lead you can hold note for a bit and it will go "waaaawawawawawa". You can do this with all kinds of things, setting LFOs to modulate the speed of the first LFO to go "waaaawawawaawaawaaawaaawaawaawawaa-a-a-a".

Once you get a decent lead, experiment/explore with the LFOs to come up with crazy stuff.

it gets easier with practice.

hmm... I suggest you to try "Albino2" and "Junglist"...
