vengeance imo is great. You'll still have to go through libraries to find the sample that fits the track, also a bit of EQ would be needed. Other than that, you can always use a Synth, filter some white noise and decrease the sus & decay on the envelope. Envelope modulation will also help a great deal. IMO white noise hihats always had a nice clean sound to them.

Use the shakers from Vengeance Essential House vol 1.. Tweak the decay n sustain on envelope till you find the sound you like. 12db HP filter and that should do the trick..
also check out the G-Sonique Drum Kit 1 free demo pack. Some really awesome samples that you could use in your production, if you like it then purchase the full pack..

+1 on all the answers, but I want to add that "sounds terrible" is completely subjective, and mainly your source doesn't matter, it what you do with it that counts. If it was just "download this sample, play it at 1/16th notes", then everyone would do it, and believe me if everyone does it, then it won't sound that great.
Search around, maybe you can find some sample or technique that no one in the psy scene has found/thought, if you are still not happy then try recording your own sample with a drummer friend it maybe your local music shop, or just synthesize your own (most rewarding approach IMO).
In the end it all depends on the context, where your hats will need to fit in (YouTube "queen don't stop me now bass stem" and notice that this tune has such a great and driving bass line when played all together, but the bass stem just sounds crappy )
Good luck on your quest

samples is something that you need to find for yourself.
If you dont like harsh hats, you need to research and find the gems.
I found some nice hats in free packs and occasional giveways.
this month I subscribed to splice sounds. 5 dollars with a promo code. I used all the 100 credits in one day plus the free stuff. got some interesting hat loops too.
