i dont have the hi have tut, but if your after some samples of hi hats and crashes you could try the freesound website, they also have so many random sounds you might find a home for.

you should trying making your own with white noise, honestly for most applications i get better results this way. Of course it is nice to get a few samples sometimes tho... look for thomas penton sample pack its pretty standard.           --

Closed/open hats are easy to synthtize ,it give you more control to make them sounding great in your tune, you will find tutorials on the net.
you can layer with usuall 909 and real battery sample too .

if your lazy, a few samples won't hurt. but i agree with making your own.. its like making your own kick, you can make it how you want it and you can make it fit better than samples.

althought some hats and crashes i do use samples for also snares and claps... since in my case idk how to makes those from a synth, just yet.           http://soundcloud.com/brentmalik

man you can do killer things when making own stuff for sure. try using a synth with a white noise gen, then HP filter, slight resonance to taste, then map the note velocity to amp attack. you can have one synth be a shaker and closed high hat all at once, can make some pretty awesome sounds!

either that or put your hat sample into a sampler and map the note velocity to the "root note" or the speed the sampler plays the note at. then add slight flanger. you get high hats on mushrooms

Take any synth, load noise into the oscillator, pitch shift, reverb, chorus or whatever else you want, short attack, long decay and sustain, maybe little decay and some release in the amplitude envelope depending on how you want it to sound... maybe some filter play, and there it is, your very own crash... at least that's how I make many of my crashes...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

you can try fm for more sparkle ,more futuristic hats, just modulate the frequncy of a osc by a other one (analog style fm) and use high pitch, you can add some filtered noise to it,it can work great, just filtered noise i find it a bit oldschool but it s nice too !

make the open hat first and then just change the amp envelop for the closed hat and it will groove a lot beeing on same tune/same caractere ..

on some synths ring modulation can work good for hats too.

Vengeance Sample packs are awesome for this.
I don't see any point to make it buy yourself.
The overall sound of my tracks jumped 2 levels when i started to use vengeance samples.

I'd rather sample it from a rock band than spending time in making a synthetic one. But that depends on what you are after. I like hats and crashes (vivid) organic. All others except of nice voice samples or orchestral samples is a journey in synthesis.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

ya but everyone has heard those samples a million times. if you are going for the standard sound sure, but synthesis gives more unique results. also there are less boundaries with synthesis than samples           --
