Although the release of this fantastic novel dates back to 2002 (on Canongate), I haven't read it until a few months ago. I just wanted to share it with you, because it seldomly happens that I discover something worth-to-read in that ever-growing pile of post-modernism.
This is what the back of the book says:
"After the tragic sinking of a cargo ship, one solitary lifeboat remains bobbing on the wild, blue pacific. The only survivors from the wreck are a sixteen-year-old boy named Pi, a hyena, a zebra (with a broken leg), a female orang-utan...and a 450-pound Royal Bengal tiger.
The scene is set for one of the most extraordinary works of fiction in recent years."
This book has it all: It's vivid: yes, this guy can write hella good; hilarious: you will find some of the best metaphors ever in here; yet very profound and highly philosophical: the numerous side blows on religion and other cultural components will make you think and re-think.
In a nutshell: Go get it

An amazing book. I remember buying this book and constantly trying to hide it from my mom, who got hooked onto it when I left it lying around my room
