OOOD: I know what you re saying I have some old stuff that s pretty fast but none of it reaches the speed of 170 or 180 like today SOME artists are producing...
I honestly think there s a bit of bpm competition going on man ehhehe You can feel it in the air....
and Im not complaining at all altho most of my music is 148-150 I have released tracks 154 and have written something around 158...
btw I'd like to listen to your rmx and original track hehehe

lol
you had everywhere high bpm music also back in the early 90'S
and is wasn't always gabber or hardcore that had this honor
i even wonder something... where'sd the competition? when i choose to set a speed in my tracks the speed others use is the least of my concerns it has to sound okay for me, and secondly all i do is afterwards to check if i did not accidentaly copy or made it "like" another track
but imho there is no such thing as "ideal speed"... Where's the artist's freedom to compose what he wants?
the only thing you got is: there are people that like fast BPM and people that like slower BPM
they call it "diversity"
it's that simple
no situation is stronger then a heart that dares to love
so may the force of life light and love be with you |

It is called change, and its used to create variation.
fast bpm tracks are not new, its not a change,
blue planet or conga fury are old and speed.
cosmosis, dimension five, trickster, psychopod, gms have always done speed ones.
it is far more easy to hide the low quality of a track in a fast one than in a slow one
not that easy to make a very good ambient or slow trance track....
maybe "psytrance world" is a litle bit more full of speed an coke than "goa world" used to be ?
there used to be a big difference between goa parties and trancecore/hardcore parties 10 years ago...differences in peoples, vibes, sounds etc........does this gap still exist ??

and you tink its a good change?

I dont think the tempo of music decides whether it is good or not.
It might be good, it might be bad.
But - I do think change in itself is a good thing; change is the product of experimentation, and this leads to new musical experiences.
It is very much what is needed I think, to keep the music alive.
So yeah, if there is change, I think its good - Just for the sake of change.
Good musicians change their style and music all the time - trying to create something unique instead of recreating something they already did.
If there was no change in music, we would still be dancing to the sound of rocks clashing against each other.. and think that would become boring quickly
If trance music change comes from a higher bpm then trance is a poor lame music style |

it doesnt have to do nothing with drugs at all !!!
its all about taste .... some of as like slower and some like faster !
me i prefer 145bpm and up coz it suits my taste !
realy simple !
but mostly the fast track more connected to dark music or whatever u wanna call it !
it has been around 14 years now that have been introducing "non experienced people" to goa music
I can tell you that if you try with a 150 bpm dark stuff they run away, but if you try with ambient, progressive or slow trance (130/140) then you still have possibility of appreciating it (try with your parents !!)......and it would have noting to do with drugs
To harmonize your mind and spirit and soul with a 150 bpm track you have to take drugs (or had taken in your past) so that you fit your nervous system with the frequencies of the fast track in order to appreciate it ( consciously or not), but to synchronize yourself with prog, ambient (etc....) you can do it without drug

your tastes are influenced by the drugs and substances you take or took.(or the absence of them) |

I once went to a night that played 200-250bpm music. It was fucking ridiculous. People weren't actually dancing, just swaying from side to side.
you're right
patrick rognan took me to a harcore night at gibus(paris) around 1995( I hate hardcore). I watched peoples "dancing" the whole night : if you put this on video camera, take the sound off (or not !) you will see lots of commun points with the behaviour of mad people in asylum.....
of course you can argue about what is madness and so on...
but mostly in goa parties bodies gestures expressions can be called dance, according to me, which is not exactly the case in gabber parties ( closer to litle jumps and chaotic nervous disoriented movements)
