actually, if you listen to the classic goa albums, many of them have a really high BPM, usually well over 145. if anything psytrance has gotten slower over time.
  ..it's just another party.. |

Thats right - But, it could go either way.
130-160 BPM
Lately I began a new cataloque of all my music, noting BPMs and sorting by genres.
Under "Goa Trance" I put mostly old stuff, all the classics and and later stuff which compares in spirit and energy.
When I find the average BPM its 143 BPM.
Best wishes

I actually like hard dark with high bpm..
but it depends on the song.. tempo says nothing to the song quality, it's what you do with your sounds |

The night has so many different colours and fast tracks with crazy sounds is god but it has to be well thought trough. It kind-dzadza- of shakes me up, confuses me and I like that melting into the dancefloor all that bla bla bla....Forgeting who I am..Just enterpreting the sounds as go |

I believe the "Psychedelic trance" genre is going to have a new sub-genre "Psycore" high BPMs 155bpm and above .. along with so called other sub-genres names like "psybient" and "neuro psy" and the discussion of the complexities of naming various styles is never-ending..
anyways, but keep in mind, "high bpm" does not always transalate into "hard music" .. it could go a different path .. you could have a high bpm groove but more floating sounds giving the track a different feel ..
also, "dark-psy" and "night-time psy" they used interchangably every time can have different meanings.. night-time music does not necessarily have to be about evil scary stuff ..
one man's noise is another man's music ..
peace,

is it just me or the bpm of the tracks this days, going faster and faster?? |

It's just you. in 1996 the average speed of psytrance tracks being played out was around 146 bpm and most of OOOD's early tracks were around 148-150 bpm; our first release, "Slience", clocked in at 154 bpm and the B-side was 150 bpm. Slower music was also around of course, but the night-time dancefloor hasn't sped up or slowed down significantly as a whole - and why should it? The frequencies at which the human brain fall into trance haven't changed.
