it doesnt have to do nothing with drugs at all !!!
its all about taste .... some of as like slower and some like faster !
me i prefer 145bpm and up coz it suits my taste !
realy simple !
but mostly the fast track more connected to dark music or whatever u wanna call it !           Let The Game Begin....

i think its injecting a different kind of dancing into the floor. big movements become more small movements, because they are faster to realise, people stand more and shake arms, running around the floor on high bpms for hours could be very sports-like psychedelic experience..
anyhow, ... i like producing on high bpms very much because it offers different settings of editing the elements. you dont need as much "impulses" in a loop as like lower bpms, because in the faster tempo one sound fills out more realtime compared to a slowler loop which takes automaticly a longer time to cycle and gives more space to beeing filled out. in fact fast "fullon" is often not full. it is minimal. and slow minimal music is often overloaded. just pitch it to 145.

the feeling of speed is one of the most interessting things about time and speed is that it is felt subjective way. the feel of time depends on the mood and offcourse the own heartbeat, think about the difference how you feel passing 5 minutes away when you are stressed compared to when you are relaxed. this means that the "felt speed" of 142 bpm is a completey different if pitch-shifted from 150 or from 130. even if from 145 or 141, this is all just natural relativity. ergo a dancer who is joining a high speed will become feel more and more confortabel with it. on the other side it would be much easier to joing in a slower speed and slowly raising up the speed during the set.

I agree with the dancing (and all the rest you write) - I have no trouble dancing at 150 just as well as 130 - but at 150 I will be "grooving" more to the music.
Smaller movements.

However - Like you say, its not down to the BPM tempo of a track how fast you perceive it.

Since Tempo = BPM = True

But

BPM = The Speed at which musical elements occur in a track = False

I have plenty of tracks I label "progressive" which are around 145BPM - For instance, stuff from Tristan´s "Audiodrome" album.

Multilayered tracks have more going on versus minimal tracks.

i prefer faster stuff but with good basslines and the elements should be clear ... otherwise i need to be tripping eg electypnose , claw , metallaxis

Slower stuff on the other hand one can make out different elements without much difficulty even if they might be subdued . so i actually prefer to dance to slower bpm and nod along to faster tracks

How about "live and let live"... I dance different to different kinds of music -and- that differs in speed, that I like. Why can't some do the same, whereas some try to put some "rules" to what is actually just people's preferences in the end...

... and evolution and development is good...

sorry my head is normaly so occupied with the music, that I lost track of the race... so you saying the score is up to 170bpm? listen to some speedcore or gabba... if well played is as joyfull as any other kind of tempo.

just as long if its music...1 bpm, 1000 bpm...does it matter if the tracks varied from infinite minus to infinite plus, just think how much of a diference it would be
