It is called change, and its used to create variation.

I got it from psyberpunk that the human heart can beat perfectly up to 144BPM. It is the limit observed by sport medecine before athletes start to break ankles and stuff like that. That's why he never plays upper than 144BPM...

... Now, it's not proven that just because you listen to 149BPM beat, it means your heart beats on the same tempo! So... I don't think its either good or bad

@furthur: it just means you only buy prog releases           V/A Floating Mirror - OUT NOW - with Celles, Midimal, Electrypnose, Melodix, Troll Scientists, Yab Yum, Gaspard, Ajja, Cradle of Beats! Info on

I dont think the tempo of music decides whether it is good or not.

It might be good, it might be bad.

But - I do think change in itself is a good thing; change is the product of experimentation, and this leads to new musical experiences.

It is very much what is needed I think, to keep the music alive.

So yeah, if there is change, I think its good - Just for the sake of change.

Good musicians change their style and music all the time - trying to create something unique instead of recreating something they already did.

If there was no change in music, we would still be dancing to the sound of rocks clashing against each other.. and think that would become boring quickly

the funiest thing is that these days people hear 150 bpm track and call it a night track...

Well I don´t do xtc or nothing like that so for me anything above 145 feels too fast to dance (some very rare exceptions)

for me, listen to high bpm (146-150) is stressing.. i like to flow on low bpm's cause its more relaxing.. for listening. there are some people that 150 bpm track make them realx.. funny but true
about the change thing, i agree that change is good!!! thats make the music interesting.. but IMO the change must be on the music itself, not at the bpm..          http://www.myspace.com/minimalran

i think its injecting a different kind of dancing into the floor. big movements become more small movements, because they are faster to realise, people stand more and shake arms, running around the floor on high bpms for hours could be very sports-like psychedelic experience..
anyhow, ... i like producing on high bpms very much because it offers different settings of editing the elements. you dont need as much "impulses" in a loop as like lower bpms, because in the faster tempo one sound fills out more realtime compared to a slowler loop which takes automaticly a longer time to cycle and gives more space to beeing filled out. in fact fast "fullon" is often not full. it is minimal. and slow minimal music is often overloaded. just pitch it to 145.

the feeling of speed is one of the most interessting things about time and speed is that it is felt subjective way. the feel of time depends on the mood and offcourse the own heartbeat, think about the difference how you feel passing 5 minutes away when you are stressed compared to when you are relaxed. this means that the "felt speed" of 142 bpm is a completey different if pitch-shifted from 150 or from 130. even if from 145 or 141, this is all just natural relativity. ergo a dancer who is joining a high speed will become feel more and more confortabel with it. on the other side it would be much easier to joing in a slower speed and slowly raising up the speed during the set.

Over 147-8 bpm is too much for me. Someone said on this forum that is like full gas in neutral – gets you to no where.I don't remember who - but I agree.

Hehehe... indeed. I'm into progressive too and I like it around 130 bpm. Full-on bores the crap out of me most of the time. There's little full-on I find cool these days.
