can anyone advise me how to get punchy snappy snare drums and hihats to stand out in mix.
has something to do with comp and dist...
can't seem to get it right...
good track must have kick-bass hihat snare
it's that pumping bouncing thing i'm talkin about....
you could stuff up everything else but if you get those right you half way good!

I usually dont use compression on my percussion...for punchy snares, layer 2 or more samples (at least for the snare on each 2nd kick), play with the envelopes, add some distortion, maybe also some exciting (depends on how much out of the mix u want them), a bit of eq and voila...does the trick for me so far           https://soundcloud.com/hazak
