Well the thing is, even bursty, noisy percussion sounds have harmonics. And tuning your drum sounds to unisons, thirds, fourths, fifths, and octaves tend to align those harmonics more "euphonically" with the other aspects of the song. It's not always crucial or even possible, but deliberately tuning your percussive instruments can often improove the groove and reduce frequency clashes. The tonic is the root key of the song. Honestly if you don't know what intervals (thirds, fourths, fifths) are, even if you aren't intensely interested in music theory, you gotta look that up. That's "price of admission" learning IMO. |
