well there is a really fucking nice plugin from jjp from waves (jjp drums). sometmes it makes wonders sometimes u better dont use depends on the sound. but this thing is a killer weapon. also waves cla drums can make some very punching sounds

besides this. i use tight alot eq on percussion. especially snare

to design in first you can take ANY synth or samples. maybe make your own? go ina bandroom with your laptop and microphone and record it

ANY trance lead can be a hihat by tweaking good

Cool man I didnt know theres was plugin from JJp for drums, thats so cool, I use the one for vocals and its amazing. I like to put in my crashes a little delay in 1/8D with a little release and some mix, but for normal hi hats, I only use eq, I have heard some people like to put all the hi hats in a group channel and add some reverb by send. And well get a good sound library, I normally use Thomas penthon its really nice!

Finding the right samples is 80% of the work. Highpass the hats. Layer them. Even very soft hats as an extra layer can really help to fill up the track.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

Well.. one hihat on the off beat usually is a little boring
So you can add extra hihats on different points in the sequence and in the whole structure to keep the percussion interesting.
Layering hats on the some place also adds some character.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

I find a lot of the hihat usage today is so boring & standard. Modern house & techno has more variation than the production in this scene. Some amazing use of cymbals was diner around the '97-'98 that gave tracks a very unique edge and showed that cymbals could be more than a simple percussion addition.           Cuntus Maximus.
