Many artists use a hi-hat trick in their tracks (e.g. Astral projection) which makes the hi-hat go faster.
I am sure most of you know what I mean, so is there any one who knows how can I create this trick |

Not exactly sure what you're talking about, but alot of psy artists (like Astral) throw in 32nd note closed hihat runs. If you've got a 16th note hihat pattern, just put a closed hat note a 32nd note interval just before a downbeat.

hey may someone please explain it better?
i am thinking of this technique too and i studied to perform "faster running hi-hats" in Reason with its sequencer
but i guess its not very right way
Astral, IM.. many other bands got it
i think it got something to do with BPM change for hihats..

I am also going to make same request as Brainstorm.. percussion in general has been bugging me for a while. With all the established artists browsing this forum can someone give more info on how to get those darn hats to go faster!!!
cheers |

Ok I found out how to do it in reason. change the size of the hi-hat to a smaller size (alt+the pencil icon), than put smaller size hi-hat close together and that will give you the tssssssss efeect. |

Hmm...can you be more specific? Maybe give an example?
I doubt artists change the BPM (sort of a dumb thing to do in a dance track). You could be speaking of any number of techniques
The easiest way to make high hats to go faster is to double the tempo/BPM (from 140 to 280) and then double the "bar length" in a sequencer (say from 16 to 32 or 32 to 64)...I dont think thats what youre speaking of though...?

the simplest way to do so is to double the resolution of the sequencer from 1/16 to 1/32, and double the space between two hats, and make 3hats in a row when u want it to go faster.
or, u can crack up the "Flam" knob in the drum machine.
(reason for example).

i cant realy see the problem in doing that !
just pick higher resolution as plan_b said & draw it...
1/16 1/32 1/64 it doesnt matter...

hey Plan_B, thanks for the info..
i know this trick with matrix sequencer.. still im looking for a better way
i will try to play with Flam though....
currently i do running hats in sequencer window.. i just change its resolution to 64-32 and play wish bars.. also not the best way
maybe there's some kind of VSTi for making percussion?

Use Waldorf Attack. Look at presets to get the hang of it, and then tweak it a bit to get the sound you want.
Idan - another important thing when working with hi-hats is to give a different velocity to your hats. It will sound much more dynamic and alive.
