Take a snare drum, pitch it down and add shitloads of reverb (try the Millenniumverb preset in Waves Trueverb)...

i used to do that ages ago. snare some octaves below. i wanted something that sounded more real.
i'll try with that reverb. might do the difference. thanks.

heavy reverb is good for the boom sound, try also on the kick (not for explosions but it's a good sound for composing, altough i never thinked of pitching it down hehe). |

hehehehe that is a good idea
last night i connected my hardware sampler to the outputs of my "TV" and i guess it will stay there for long just for me to be able to catch good samples while watching movies without having to think about doing it later

I sampled them too ...
You can sample them while you're whatching a DVD or just to TV.
Or you can also search the internet and try diffrent terms like "sound fx" or "explosion" I would recommend www.altavista.com/audio for this kinda search.
Perhaps you should experiment too
Render some sounds of synths for example and let the pitch do the magic. You don't have to slow it down only, you can automatisate it too Why not load it in Cooledit or Soundforge?
Experiments are fun and you'll have lot's of experiences in no-time
Have fun
