Create a homepage or a myspace dedicated to your party service...
if you got what is needed and the expertise im sure you will get some "gigs"
also if you dont have a crew yet, make one, so you are some people that can go together and raise a fund..
a good idea is to throw a party first and then you have something to promote your self with 
Im pretty sure it wont be a problem to make this happen i NY...

Ok to be a little more specific (was rushing out of the house when making original post)
So I am an aspiring DJ in the NY area (as of now)
I own 4 PA speakers Tapco Thump 15", a Denon 1200 mixer (two decks, and mixer)
Laptop for portablilty (Dell Studio)
A van (though we are unsure how far it will take us, but it seems sturdy enough to get somewhere)
Power generator/solar panel to charge generator (works without gasoline)
My girlfriend is Working on Deco, art design, photography as well
She has a Nikon D60, she is also ordering a bunch of supplies to make deco for the events.
I would like to put it out there that I am willing to travel, or it is actually my hopes to travel to different states and throw these events. I am not looking to start off making tons of profit but enough to keep me going on my path... (because in order to be at disposal to whomever wants our services we must be without jobs so as to be able to leave on the spot. )
Our inspiration comes directly from our first experience in the psytrance scene. June 1st 2007 at a free underground forest party... this was our first time hearing the style of music, seeing this style of people, and we just fell in love with all of it. We felt so at home and felt the energy of these people is something that needs to be felt throughout the world... That is why we are doing this... going out on a limb and risking everything we worked for to spread peace and understanding throughout!!!

Before you spend thousands of dollars on equipment... consider that there are already systems... I have a fairly impressive sound system that I do use for psytrance parties (indoors and out).. but I could bring it to a lot more parties than I do. My friends who used to throw psy parties still have a pretty decent system that mostly is just sitting around now, that I can likely borrow.. and there is another system I know of as well that gets mostly very little use. So there are systems!
What New York really lacks is not so much sound systems, as much as people who are willing/able to: locate new underground or underground-like locations, organize good events, provide financial backing for such events, do art/deco/promotion/transportation/everything-else. And TRANSPORTATION is the tough one a lot of the time. Your van is probably your most valuable piece of equipment. I don't have one, and that makes things much more difficult as far as bringing my system out. Truck rentals really add to the cost and difficulty of an event.
Anyway not trying to spoil your fun nor downplay the value of what you are doing, which seems totally AWESOME. So thank you VERY much for what you are doing. I am also not saying you should not have your own system, it is great you have it. I love having mine.
I am just saying that there are resources out there that you can use.. good sound systems, and people like me who know how to engineer the systems so they actually sound good... Also people who do art at parties, people who promote, DJs, etc etc. If you are out there showing people you have got your shit together and have your heart in the right place, then all kinds of stuff and all kinds of people will come your way to help with your parties, including sound systems.
PS: If you do wish to increase your sound system, let me help you buy, because there are lots of really great deals out there right now, everyone is selling their stuff to raise cash.. so you can get some fantastic deals, you do not need to pay full price for new equipment, when you can get better used equipment for less money. If you know what to look for you can find fantastic deals. |
