Ok folks,

I'm frustrated as hell and feeling depressed to the core of the earth!! My music has come to a standstill - and i feel i'm getting too complaicent where the technicalities of sound are concerned rather than the composition of the sounds/music itself!!

I've got Loopitis.... Need a cure!!

Don't wanna loose what i've already conjured!!

HELP!!!           "... b'om ..."

try composing first, THEN do the technical things i like doing kick and bassline first, then make them sound good, then compose the rest and at last mix it all           myspace.com/auralinvasion

use your imagination more... dont get hooked with regular instruments...

if you have a microphone, take the sounds you can find in your surroundings and make music of them.. cause you will feel that you dont need any special knowledge, only your unique imagination...

i sat down yesterday to practise some guitar and i feelt, man i cant express my self with this instrument, not like i want to... i could do it if i just used the guitar in a experimental way, but i ditch the guitar and look around me and picked up different things i could make noise/sounds with and wrote a list, now i got 11 different sounds, and they are all very interesting... so today im going to record them and see what i can do with them.....

so what i want to say is that there are soo many ways you can express your self, no need to do it the typical way, i.e play a melodic instrument or whatever....

and i think everybody will recognize them self in what you say... it takes time to understand the technical aspect, but you should surrender, dont use the EQ or the compressor, dont feel that you have to have clarity from start... you have a vision but you dont have a method to convey that vision..
so strip it down to a point where you can convey it.. composition should be full of freedom,

so, either use the sounds in your surroundings and make something out of them, or load a rack of synths and use presets and dont tweak drums and percs.. just compose... no matter how it sounds, leave the sounds open to the end..

many composers have a default soundset, they use the same sounds and only for the end they decide about the vocings...

think about it....

if you come up with a melody, you can have many instruments play different parts of it... think about it like you have a orchestra at your disposal.. you are free to put any tones to any instrument you want....

now take a walk, or paint, or juggle... i like to paint when i feel i cant express my self with anything else... cause i can relax and just flow, things can happen at random without i feel any pressure.... thats how i want it to be with music aswell... but there are so many aspects that can clog that flow... though like i said there are ways to change that...

Free flow!

Bro .. There is a serious lack of these where i'm at!!! Could be root cause!!!
"Heheheheheeee"
I listen to all genres of music and enjoy most of them too. I look for inspiration from sounds as well!! But I feel that actually replicating them electronically is where i fall short (since i don't have a mic --- hmm , maybe i should get one!!?!?!). Thus i feel that technical expertise would be the only solution to this problem!! Maybe i'm wrong - i don't know!!

Another thing i've realised is that my composition always stop somewhere. I can't seem to express or rather effectively express tonically - u know what i mean??
Can't seem to get to the climax (thank god it's not so with my sex life -pphhheeeeww!!)

I'm trying to study the structure of music too and also in the process of getting myself a keyboard so i can practice, but i still have inhibitions where i feel that all these ventures may not pay off!!

or maybe i'm just not talented enough!!

Sorry i'm, blahing here, but i hope u understand that this emotion is very difficult and a constant hurdle whenever i'm at the decks!!

Freeflow, i'm really greatful to you for taking the time to share your thoughts on this - thanx a tonne!!!

I constantly feel the need to read and educate myself more in the field of Audio, but i find the posts here to techical and pro-Cubase and soon loose interest!!

So.... for now ...... i'm going to the gym!!

Get your self a keyboard... and a mic aswell if you got the money.. otherwise its worth saving up to it.

we all get stuck in composition
the best thing is when you get stuck in composition,
bypass the drums and percussion.. or take a break.
a good way to make it all more interesting is to mute different channels and listen to how it sounds when you introduce stuff in different ways..

if it sounds empty, make a theme... this can be a "question and answer" motif or adding a comp to the motif.. i often notice after i bypass percussion, kick and bass that its all very empty, lack of melody or motion in sounds..

you talk about climax, listen to
Hydrophonic - ones and zeros

they dont have any leads that play through the whole track, "only" some motifs and sounds..
but for the end of the track, we call it the climax, they introduce the "big" lead

so instead of trying to make lots of leads that fit eachother, make a one good lead melody and use it for climax...

there are many ways to go at it... but try and make it simple for your self... and dont be afraid to just drop sounds into the sequencer and work your way forward, you can always change things later... just try to keep the flow... cause all of a sudden you make a wicked part and get a new idea how things going to flow into this part.. or vice verse... ideas get born out of eachother.

now if you listen to
Logic Bomb - neighbour of the beast
you hear its full of sounds, very playfull stuff, lots of riffs acting as question and answer motif... the spectrum is full of sounds.. its like the sounds are talking... sounds fading in and out of eachother, very clever music... this is not something you just do in a jiffy.. this is 3 guys melting their minds together and this is what we get...

dont expect to make the most complex track, it takes alot of skill.. im not saying that you dont have it, but its damn hard work to get to a point where you can visualize your ideas and make them come through.

- Thanx guys for your insight and word of wisdom!! B'om Shankara!!!
Gonna hit the decks again now!

Would like some info on the following ...

I'm using Reason 3 and have noticed that when i have two effects applied in 1 mixer channel(in this case it's 1/3 delay in Aux1 and 100% echo in Aux2).
The Aux1 delay is constant set to around 65% and in the last bar of the sample i boost the echo to set up a trail effect of the same sample to introduce the kik.
However the Echo effect does not play.
The mixer sequencer monitor in my sequencer panel indicates input but there is no trail/effect created.
Does this mean that effects cancel each other out??
I hope my expression of the problem is understandable - sorry i'm not very technical jargon savvy!!
Pls help - appreciate feedback on this!!!
