Hi

I live in a rural community and it is very hard to get reliable information on this type of thing as there is only one shop specializing in this type of equipment in the whole town. They’re only interested in selling you what they stock at ridiculous prices.

I’ve been doing my head in for a long time now, and it seems the more I look the more confused I get.

I’ve got:

1x Lap top
1x Phonic MM1002 mixer
1x Crown XLS 602 amplifier
2x JBL JRX 125
2x JBL 118SP sub woofers

Question 1
At the moment the music comes straight out of the headphone jack in the lap top into the line in on the mixer. This does not give me stereo or 3D sound.

For example when I listen to the same music on my little mini system or car stereo the music will automatically pan from side to side. I can’t achieve this effect on my big system without doing it manually (pan the mixer).

I’ve been looking at various external sound cards but have no idea what kind would be best for the job as they range greatly in price size a features. I’m not even sure if an external sound card would fix this problem?

Here’s links to just a few I’ve been looking at:

I don’t have any idea what one would best suit me? All I’m looking for is the best sound quality possible at a reasonable price? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question 2
At the moment the two bass speakers JRX118SP come out of the auxiliary on the phonic mixer. My question is, is this the best way?

I think it’s the only way on my mixer but I’m thinking about getting a new one. Once again I have no idea what would best suit me?

Conclusion
My main problems are finding the best way to link the laptop to the mixer achieving the best possible sound quality and if possible 3D or stereo sound?

What mixer would be best for using all these speakers to their full potential?
Is coming straight out of the auxiliary the best way to run the bass bins? Is there a better way and/or better mixer for the job?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my problems.

hmm....the question is what you need it for? production or djing?

That's going to give you really shitty quality as its getting played back with the laptop's built in soundcard.

I guess all you need is a good quality external soundcard to hook up to your mixer.

You also have the option of getting rid of the mixer & getting yourself a mixer/audio interface such as this one:

or this one:

If you want to stick with your mixer then get a cheap interface such as this:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/450605-REG/Echo_AUDIOFIRE2_AudioFire2_FireWire_Audio_Interface.html

It'll still be a huge improvement over your current method of running audio off your headphone out.          http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic
