Hi.
I am seek of building the breakbeat's for my track's!!!!!!!
it's very annoying to build some of them,
the meaning of "dark trance breakbeat's" i ment to break's as like as the one on the track:
Syntax Error - Wombattle.
it's a very hard and dark one.
can anyone give me few break's as like as this one?
or even link's to some sites that i can download those loop's???

This isn't really the answer to your question, but it might help.
Try writing your own breaks on top of someone else's (like Syntax Error's) break that you like. Not duplicating it, but just adding in additional hits that follow the same groove. When it gets so full that you can't add any more, remove the original.
Voila, break!
This is how Aquasky does it sometimes.

what u need i think is spectrasonics sttyluss
great for breaks and all kinds of percussions
theres also a lot of refills available for download in ur favorite peer network, but as fuzzikitten said u can add some hits to those loops , to make it ur own. if u use reason u can use redrum,, but i would advise NI Battery for that matter , great control of samples..
and of course get GOOD percussion samples!!

plugins like Leapfrog audio's: Rephraser and Phatmatik are very good for making break beats...
I usualy use the same trick as fuzzykitten wrote...
But i usually just use some brekbeat loop for the model...
Then gradually cutting the freq. from the bottom... and gradually add more sounds for the break beat... repeat the process untill u have removed the original break beat...
When u have done this some times u suddently have a great feel on how to make break beats...
Adding pan. (ultrafunk) or using filter sweeps also add great goovy effects for breakbeats...also flanger and phaser is great for exstra groove....
I know that the break beats in wombattle was created in reason... and exported to logic...
According to jaffa (syntax error) reason is the best for breakbeats...
Hope this helps...

if you've got some loops you like choop them up in frutty slicer (if you're using FL) or another wav edit tool and retrigger them accordingly to your taste.
there are excelent sample cds with lots of perc loops without the kick wich are great for that effect.
that way you can get a lot tasty breaks and benefit from the fact that percs in sample CDS already are compressed, EQed, etc in a profissional manner.

i'll try to do my best so i'll propbly listen to Syntax's track and try to give you an appropirate answer.
I myself wanna make a few tracks and combien those two energetic styles together. and yes, it's defently a hard task.
(But i'm sure it will pay at the end... )

jeezes man... Get some funk partitures and LEARN how to build breaks... 'give me breaks', 'give me breaks'... when did some producers get so lazy? i'm sure syntax error wasn't looking for someone to give him a breakbeat...
simple and most important break tip, put a snare on every second count (on 2 and 4), u can put the rest entirely as u want and it will sound right, because of the hard snare every 2 beats...
U can use a background break, but that's not something i would do in psytrance, it's more of a DnB thing, and in DnB u make the background break unrecognisable, u don't use it as a base, more as an added effect...
Don't forget u need different instances of the same snare to give dynamism to the snares (drummers have a right and left hand, and they don't hit with the same strength or on the same spot every time), this can be done with pitch, filtering, transient designing, volume,...
the hihats can stay the same as in 4 to the floor tracks (but not just one on every countertime, that's too boring for a breakbeat)...
After u built ur break, load it in recycle or something similar and make all the variations u want...
to get it rough and snarly, distortion/saturation is ur best bet... guitar overdrives and fuzzes are great on snares f u want them to sound dirty and hard, with the kick just saturate it to hell (the hardcore way)... hihats u can send through a fast flanger or phazer for a little dirtyness (just an example)....
it's really not more difficult then making 4 to the floor drums, u just have to get into the right mindframe... |

that's a very nice tip FREGLE
i suppose it applys mostly to hh and snare balance, since usally (rock) drummers cross both arms and they're hitting the HH with the right hand and the SNARE with the left hand.
i don't think they hit the snare with both arms... but maybe they do for rolls and stuff
snare drums are usually tuned but there's still little diferences when hit at different places of the snare skin
an interesting trick used by drummers is to hit the side of the snare (rim) wich gives a higher pitch snare
  roll a joint or STFU :) |
