I have one sound that the mixer of cubase sx says it's 2.1 (the reading with the blue numbers) and a second one that the mixer says it's 0.3 (the reading with the blue numbers). how come I can hear the second one louder? Also what is the difference in cubase SX mixer between the level described with the blue numbers and the level decribed with the white numbers? |

I'm not sure about the blue and white numbers of the mixer, but basicly you can hear a sound louder for many reasons like room acoustics - sound reverbation.
Higher frequencies are usually louder for the ear, so your sound might just be louder from that.
and the process of learning your room acoustics and the speakers sound reproduction is exactly those loud vs quiet frequency division.

So, you think that I should trust the mixer and not my ears? |

on the contrary mate
trust only your ears.
with time you will discover, using other speakers help, and also reference material - how good your ears mix.
and for now, if the signal sounds too loud - then you lower it down... if it's not loud enough - make it louder. ears. Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Good advice there.
Also, the supposedly quiet signal could have a lot of bass within it that your speakers aren't capable of producing.
I've had a number of synths contain a really low tone I wasn't aware of due to my crappy monitors and lack of a subwoofer. When I played the track on a big system, lo and behold, booming bass where there wasn't supposed to be any.
A lot of synth sounds etc can benefit from a low-cut filter to remove really low tones you don't intend to have there. Tastes & opinions on the exact number setting vary, but try putting a low cut on synth channels, experiment, etc...
This might not be the case in your situation, but it's possible.

the numbers in cubase mixer indicate about the peak of the wave.
sometimes the peak of a wave can be high while most of it is a lot lower and sometimes the peak is at normal level and the rest of the wave got more avarge levels so it actually sound louder!
UIU,
export these two examples you got and look at their waves. Im sure you`ll find the difference! |
