Hi people, I need some guide lines regarding building a "demo set" for promotion DJing / live purposes.
The style of music is chill-out/IDM/ambient.
I came up with few questions:
1. How much time does a "demo set" needs to last? (in minutes)
2. Do I need to focus mainly on the smooth mix between the tracks, and after one track was mixed just to "fade out-then-fade in" to the next time I need to mix the next song?
Maybe to put just the "interesting" parts of the set I'm building (and not a full length set)?
3. Anything you can add about the order of the tunes in the track?
I mean with what I should start – to start a set with an "up/groovy tune" or a "mellow tune" maybe…?! What is the right arrangement?
Maybe someone have any helpful links to pages where I can read & learn more about the meter?
Thanks in advance,
Flakey.

Theres lots of rules in recording a promo set but most important one I learned is to forgot all of them and have some fun, otherwise u gonna have lots of hard time..
Just choose your first track, with nice intro, press rec on recording device and than play on turntable and there u go.. No rules, just pure fun for u and your listeners.. If its not good in the first recording, who cares, that just means u gonna have double fun cause u have to record it again..
Forget about the links and enjoy listening to your music..
Just to answer your questions..
Make it standard audio CD 74 minutes max or if u doing live and dont have so much material, no problem, record as long as u can but stick to 74 in general.. So u can burn it onto cd if u want to..
Save interesting parts for the floor..
Set/live should sound like one big track so arrange your tracks to sound like that.. http://www.facebook.com/xrayzproductions

Personally I've gotten promoter interest just by sending 30 minute demos highlighting the better (to me) parts of my live set. However there is nothing wrong with doing at least an hour also.
