Hello I have questions about asio configurataion and selecting bit resolution.
I have a ESI waveterminal 192L soundcard that supports ASIO 2, full duplex etc. I use Cubase SX 2...
When I try to change the bit resolution to 24bit in the ASIO multimedia setup the only option I can find is disable the "use 16bit only" in the advanced options menu, but when I disable it the bit res. change to 32bit and that dont work with my soundcard.
...In the ASIO full duplex setup I cant change the bit res. at all....
do I change the bit resolution.. The only way I can think of is to change the settings in the project setup menu in SX....
which is right? how can I know if I use 24bit?? What should i do??
Thanks in advance!

Hi Daniel,
What i'd do is set the project tempo at 24bit, export a file and then check its bit resolution on Wavelab or another sample editor. If it's 24bit then you work at 24bit. |

An SX project can work with files of any bit-depth; you can have 16-bit, 8-bit and 32-bit float in the same project if you want. It's not something you set in any sound-card preferences, except in the Project Setup screen where you select the bit-depth you want to use when recording. You select the bit-depth of the files you export in the Export Audio dialog at the time you actually export them. The best way to see what sort of files are in your project is by looking in the Audio Pool (<ctrl>-P) where you will see a list of all the audio files in your project with information like file type, file location and bit-depth.

Hello thanks foryour answer Alex!
Do u chek your resolution with the bit meter in wavelab or???
I dont trust that meter. If I put the waves L2 on the master, using a 16bit audio file and choose to dither to 24 bit, the bit meter will show more bits even though the dynamic range doesn´t .....
I´m want a larger s/n-ratio when I record from external gear. That´s the reason I asked this question. I have too high noise levels when I record and I wonder if there is something wrong with my settings... Maybe I´m just recording in 16bit?? If you know what I mean..
