Hi all,

I have 3 analog synths, an analog drumbox, all with midi, 2 mics, an electric guitar with its amp and 3 monitors.
On the other hand I have a Powerbook and an external HD.

I would like to buy Logic Pro and produce my music (Goa style).

According to what I already have, may someone give me suggestions on the hardware equipment I could choose in order to finish and complete a nice studio?

My budget is about 8 thousand euros.

Some gear I have in mind : Apogee Ensemble, Eventide Eclipse, Motu MidiTimePiece AV USB, Empirical Labs Lil FrEQ, E.Labs Distressor Compressor, Moog analog effects (vs. Eventide digital effects).

Thanks in advance for your configurations and ideas.

And you seriously need to get one of these:)

Alesis AirFX Hand Controlled Digital Effects Unit

airFX is the first product from Alesis to incorporate patent-pending Axyz (pronounced ax-is) technology. Developed by co-founder and CEO of Alesis, Keith Barr, Axyz technology consists of an infrared beam that can be manipulated in three dimensions, along the X, Y, and Z axis. Using triangulation, up to 5 different parameters can be controlled in each preset program.

Designed to draw more people into the world of making music, airFX is easy to operate because 'playing' it is largely based on human intuition. According to Barr, "The exciting thing about airFX is that anyone can play it — from the avid music buff who has never touched or played an instrument to the club DJ who's looking for a new sound to set him apart.

Virtually anyone who wants to be part of the musical process now has the power to make music themselves and they'll find out how truly fun it is. Kids can simply hook it up to a stereo in their bedrooms, wave their hands and they've made new music. airFX makes the process seem almost magical."

airFX eliminates the learning curve associated with playing a traditional instrument or learning a piece of audio gear and provides immediate gratification. The simple interface consists of a single knob, which is used to select, engage, by-pass, freeze, and release a given effect, and an LCD that indicates the current program. 'Playing' airFX involves pressing the knob to engage the effect and then moving a hand through the invisible infrared

Glitch_CapeTown: sorry but no need for him to get lowend gear when he's got 8 grand to play with.

Bluebice>> It's kind hard for us to tell you what you should get. we can only recommend some gear and tell you to stay away from other gear but we dont really know what you need and work will work best for you.

All the units you've mentioned are really nice.

Audio interface:
Personally i would NOT go with the Apogee Ensemble. I'm shure the converters are good. Don't know about the preamps but ive heard thats its got some driver issues so its not very stable at the moment. Also i believe that you will get alot more value for money with RME. Their converters are just as good! I would go with with fireface 800.

It's only got four preamps; im shure you will need more. Have you considered a mixer?
I would under any circumstance get a dedicated highend preamp for recording with mics.

Are you shure you need an analog EQ?

I suggest you ask this question in the following forum:

http://www.gearslutz.com/board/index.php

I think you'll get much more better advice over there since the forum is dedicated to that very purpose..

Also since you have a decent budget you should allot part of it to making sure you have good acoustics in your room..No use spending tons of cash on high end gear if your room is not treated!

Glitch_CapeTown : thanks a lot for ur ideas, I had a look. I knew the AirFx, it is nice but not my priority right now.

AvS : I believe the association in between Apogee and Apple/Logic will grow to end up being a PT TDM rival.
I did consider Universal Audio 2192 and RME F800 but I think it's wiser to wait for Apogee(Apple/Logic) first.

A good mixer would eat my budget; with a second computer screen for the virtual mixer I think It'll be ok.
Why would I need more than four preamps? I only have 2 mics...

I'm not shure about the EQ...if I get the Distressor and the Eclipse to sculpt the sound already. What's ur idea behind the question?

S-Cube : treating the room is on my plans, thanks.
