Concerning compression,
You don't necessarily need it, but it gives you more controll over the sound...
As EYB rightly pointed out, use the search and find out more, and maybe you'll realise why it's probably used in the Chemical basslines.

LOL, ask any artists how he compress his bass, he will laugh in your face....
To compress your bass is the most stupidist thing you can do, it hides the sound... ok... i stop now there's no point...
Go head Compression is killer !!!!

You either don't know what you're talking about, or you're using huge generalisations which completely ignore various scenarios in which compressing the bassline (whether using a compressor or by other means) is absolutely the right way to get a particular sound.

try to make some new, more dynamic and solid basslines. much more of a challange, but well worth it when you get it right.
use synths with `portamento`to get really nice bassrolling effects and nice , tight bending on some notes.
the rest is details which depends on what the sound is doing and what you want it to do, but it is important to start with a good, solid bass sound from a good synth or softsynth.
just a thought

Of course if you wanna pumping house sound, you have to compress, but the case here was to get a CC bass... anyway...
Not gonna stick to this forver... so i drop it...
Maybe you have to listen to the diffrence on some Hidley/Kinoshita, to understand what im talking about.... |

Try dropping a tune with the desired bassline in your sequencer, getting the tempo right, and writing right over top of it.
That way you can do quick A/B comparisons to compare your sound.
Drop a lowpass filter over the entire mix and see what the frequencies are doing around 40, 60, 100, and 500Hz.
It's all right there, you just have to listen VEEEEEEERRRRRRRY carefully.
good luck! |

zimon, how can u say that all the artists don´t use compression? hueahea compression and eq are simply the most important tools in production...
the only thing that doesn´t need compression is that thing that comes ´already compressed´ remember that everybody whishes to get as much linear frequencies as possible on the frequency analyzer, so your song will get full of power :-o |

um thats crap.....
compressors are important tools , but you dont have to shove them on everything....
its important to know how they work best and where to use them best...because if you over compress you will undoubtly fuck the track up and do alot of damage to the feeling and quality of the track....
I dont do the drugs....I AM the drugs |

I think the trick for cc (skazi) is solid bass sound , and then do a major eq cut in the 1-2k area.
then bounce and maximise bass seperatly from the rest of the track. |

Compression is not mandatory in music, it depends on kind of music you want to make (e.g. old Jazz records don't use compression). Compressors are related to sound dinamics and if you use them a lot, you can kill the dinamics on your sounds. But hey dude, it's only to have care about it and everything it's ok. Nowadays, it's very commom to use (and abuse) of compressors, specially for these lovely in-your-face sounds. I really cannot live without compression in my Kick & Bass (full band, multiband, sidechain etc ;-)
And the valves compressors are the most powerful to make in-your-face sounds. Valves sound better than solid state devices, I mean warmer and more musical, but you can find for yourself by visiting the links below...
1. The Cool Sound of Tubes

2. Tubes vs Transistors: Is there an audible difference?

4. Where To Use (Valves...)Processors http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar98/articles/procesor.html
Back to the question about bass & kick: just use sidechain compression and you will find the right way for pumping trance tracks.

hey people, I was hoping that some of you would be able to clear up a few points on ashers's advise...
like when he said...
QUOTE: asher skazi...
"monology-killer smode an ull sync(staynberg vs taynberg) " END QUOTE
?? Is he refering to the "Monologue" vst ? and what is "ull sync" ? is it "full sync" ??
Also asher said "staynberg vs taynberg" ?? what is he refering to? Stienberg vs tay???......
there was also this what i was hoping to clarify..
QUOTE: Asher skazi...."then ompress it with full atakk no relese then L-2 it it ill suond killer " END QUOTE.
??? When he says compress with full attack, and no release..... do you think he is saying.. (eg).."ATTACK -1000 mls" and "RELEASE - 1 mls" ????
your opions would be apreciated !
I moved on from this bass issue a while back after having success woth my own style bass....BUT i still really love there bass and also exaile's is dam fine too.
