Hi all can anyone help me learn how to program a synth to make textures, drones and stuff like that. I looked through 3 or 4 pages and found some good help but the vst's they were teaching with were DAW specific or only came for mac or logic as built in programs. I use FL. on a pc.I know there's allot of reverb at least in the examples I am providing so I think I need the most help with the modulation of the soundlp I could be dead wrong. Any help would be great thanks these are some examples

Thanks for the help. I have looked at 2 of those threads already. The spectral thing wouldn't work for me. It wouldn't load a sample and would only work as a stand alone. Maybe I did something wrong? I will check out the make a pad like this one though so thanks for that. Peace

i know this is not programing synths, but i read somewhere that if you put a sample (somting weird in the piano roll and play it at a really low note you will get a really weird long streched sound which can make some really good atmosphere, eq and add some delay and reverb too.

try some effects with super slow modulation on those slowed down samples, that is usually another good approach. layer some stuff. Spectral Drone maker i can get to work for mac, not sure about windows.

I tried your low note sample idea and it works well for some stuff. Thanks to everyone else who offered help. Much obliged.
Granular Synthesis is a great option for texture and drones.. for those of you using Ableton live, try a free max for live device called Granulator, import a long waveform (like a movie soundtrack or anything else...) and play with the file position parameter. Add ambient fx like delays, reverbs, autopan... Reaktor is a good option too...
With good programming you can emulate granular syntesis with samplers looping small fragments of samples and playing with sample start, loop start - end points, envelopes etc.. have fun!!

Making a good drone is all about spending allot of time on your drone. The granulation is an amazing tool when combined with effects. But if you really work on it for a long time that is the key. Experiment, start over, experiment start over. Bump to audio, slow it down, add more effects start over, reduce muddiness with EQ along the way. Add minimal effects with slow modulation.
