Hi!
At last I'm able to buy my first hardware synth - but can't choose which one to pick. I was thinking of Nord Modular G2 Engine, but now thinking of Nord Rack 2x. I need a universal synth because it's my first, but the main priority is 1/16 psy (full-on) bass and good leads. But Patrik said that he can't get good psy bass from his nord lead 2x - it's TOO fat and has noticable modulation. Now i don't know what to choose! Help, please!

i would say from what you listed you should get a used nord lead 2(not 2x). The modular is going to require alot of programming to get sounds your looking for.
the 2x just sounds like extra crap you dont need, it would be way cheaper to get a used lead 2, even could get a lead 2 and a micro modular.

If Patrik says he can't get good psy bass from his nord 2x then its his own fault! IMO the nordlead 1 and 2 are king of 1/16 bass. So many people use nord's for this type of bass because of the nice character. Being to fat is a good thing - just cut the right freqs.

ps: its not really a "universal" synth but its verstile enough to get you lot's sounds, but the main thing is that it sounds great and its very easy to use wich makes it a great first synth.

I have a Nord Modular G2X.

It has numerous advantages over the NL2, while offering a not too deep learning curve.

1) Its greater polyphony
2) The new assignable Knobs&Morph modes. Basically you can assign any Knob to whatever you want and variate the values with Morph groups
3) Infinite sound crafting possibilities (!)
4) Hardware & Software : it makes use of the best of the two worlds

And the list goes on. Trust me, buy a NL Modular G2 (if you have money, buy the G2X)

There is no "crap you don't need". Do you actually own a G2 Synthesizer? I hope you're not serious about your statement...

I go with Carthago,
I got the G2 and love it 2 bits !!!
U have 2 have some knowledge about modular synthesizers, if U wanna go for some serious patching (which is a lot of fun ! But you can always tweak the presets or the numerous of patches U can download from the net....
I wouldn't get the engine version, cause you miss out on a lot of controll (without having to move the mouse )..and it's a great midi-controller aswell !!!
The 2 inputs give U an external FX/Compressor/EQ...

The only contender IMO would be the new Virus that's on the doorstep...

Go to the music-store, if U can...and tweak the hell out of them !!!

I don't think the G2 is a good option for a first hardware synth. It's extremely complex and it takes alot of work to make decent patches, and overall it has a very clinicaly clean and thin sound.

I would second the advice of a nord 1 or 2-- very tweakable and sort of "instant gratification" as you can replicate alot of the psytrance sounds you hear on records. Plenty of knobs for easy access to params, and you can use them to tweak your softsynths as well. Basslines, leads, pads, fx-- NL has it covered.

Definitely try before you buy though, you may like the virus or novation sound better.
