well it's recommanded to have a midi keyboard but it isn't a must.
anyhow first of all don't let all the buttons scare ya. it isn't a airplane cockpit or smth. :)
try to understand each device and it's uses. you can visit propellerheads site - they have a screenshot of Reason adn pop up info's that explains each device.
all in all it's very simple!
the sampler is a sampler, the synth is a synth, etc. ;)
what I like in Reason best is that I can sequence in both patterns way (using the matrix) just like in Fruityloops and also sequencing the regular way just like in Cubase.

I know how to use the "hardware" i have used some synths and samplers and drum machines here and theee, all those buttons are fun :) thing is i don't know how to create the track itself, i don't know how to work with the sequencer...
any tips on that specific part? recording, editing, and actually tracking...? |

Jason I can burn it to you (it's 2 cd's). but you'll have to build a time machine for that (even a simple one) and bring me back to the days my burner worked.. :)
Ron, as for recording - at the lower part just right click and choose "Create Sequencer Track" and choose the device you want to record to. hit record, play and play your midi keyboard. :) you can also draw the notes using that pencil tool if you dont have a keyboard but using it is quite annoying and much less intuitive.
you can also use the matrix for patterns. the matrix device can be connected to any kind of device and record patterns out of it. .
