Finally after saving and saving have enough cash to get a decent pair of monitors which i have been craving for
Working of my hifis for months now the big upgrade~!!!!
Needed to know from you people whether i should go in for the
1. Genelec 8040A 58hz to 20khz 40w bi amp pear speaker
2. genelec 8030A 48hz to 20 khz 90 w bi amp per speaker
I have been looking through them and must let you know
I have a fairly large room( not massive) about 10 feet by 12 feet and has a slight extension like an L shape ovedr this.
I was concerned about the frequency response difference mainly and the outptut secondly
I am writing night music (psy) and do like to pay special detail to my baselines and like a warm sound
If output is not a concern (if u think 180 watts rms each side is a bit much) and that i will be more than satisfied with 80 on each side
please let me know!!
Also if u think there is another alternative or better speakers feeel free to chip in
Also goin in for edirol or mackie sound card !
Very excited and cant wait to pick em up so thanks for all your input and time
Also they would come in a pair as per prices at http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/8040A/
or NO??
Big boom

first of all, dont buy Edirol soundcard cause it dosent have DSP and u'll be sorry for that in the future!
about the monitors, if u have enough money i defenetly recomend u to buy a Mackie624 monitors! it has the best sound i've ever heared, and they cost only 1500 euros.. thats no money compare to the sound they have!

Also have in mind that your room needs to have good accoustics or else having good monitors won“t improve much.
If you have bad accoustics maybe considering also some accoustic treatment (absorbers, bass traps, etc) would be a good idea to get a good sound from your monitors, otherwise will just be wasting money.... |

In most rooms you are fine if you make sure monitors are not too close to walls or corners, and close to the listener. I would suggest you test the monitors you like most in a store, compare the ones you can afford; bring some music you like. Genelec, Mackie, Dynaudio and Adam all have good monitors, just a matter of taste, the adam's have a more open high end because of their tweater technology... anyway.. goodluck

Creamwaaaaaaaaaaaaare and then two more!
I have a pair of Genelec 1029As which is the equivalent in the older series. They have good transient response (they are quite tight) and I love the waveguide design because it saves the day in rooms that are not acoustically treated(seems to be missing from the 80xx series).
On the other hand they are rather dissapointing on low frequencies. Also, the frequency responce varies considerably with volume.
I think when you buy genelec you pay for the name and they got their good name from the more high end series. Personaly I don't think that reflects on the entry level series. On the other hand they are made to match the sub for their series(which is usually quite expensive) and this might improve the low freq problem.
Oh, very well built by the way, I've been using them since 2001 and the only problem I have is that the volume kmob is quite crackly(can be replaced tho)
One thing that's strange is that I bought mine for £480 (pair-new) and now they cost £300 each! I'm not sure why but it seems quite ineresting. |

The genelec 8000 series was awarded best studio monitors 2005 at MIPA. I have a pair of 8040a and havent looked back since i got them So even though people recommend other monitors they are definately a very viable choice (as a lot of the other models are )
Best of luck in search for a decent setup! |
