PoM - before you buy something, ask yourself a few question.
Are you recording microphones and any other equipment? In that case pre-amp might be useful. If you don't, there is no point in buying it. Same goes for synth - are you feeling limited with VST? And even if you do, it's probably not the problem of the VST but with you.
Do you have monitors and a good pc? That would be my first in my list of purchases.

yes i ll buy something when i m sure i need it, for the synths i miss the pure analog sound and i m planing to do some house music and other style where big warm sound are welcome (with a minimoog style synth ) or something more psychedelic with a modular ... but now i m thinking to a preamp ,eq or compressor to send my tracks in cause vst are getting better and better, but i never used gear like that, i don t know if it ll make a big change.people who own digital plugins and analog gears all said me to go analog ,like it was night and day,is it true? (i know we don t need all that for very good produced psytrance but it s a gift to myself )
wi']['ch for the uad1 i think it s not really what i m looking for but i ll listen some sample if i can find some. |

Well, you're choosing between a piece of gear that makes sound and a piece of gear that transforms sound.... And I tell you: both are needed..
I say, if you could, buy both of them. In time you probably will, but I think you should go to a misuc store and play a little with each equipment, or buy both to experiment for 30 days and then choose.
You probably need both type of equipment, but what do you need the most? (and no one here on IsraTrance can answer that dude)

I have quite a bit of analogue and digital outboard gear but nearly all my recent stuff tends to be all done in the box...
I don't use my analogue synths much at all (Alesis Andromeda and Waldorf Pulse+) and havn't been doing much with them for a while now.
If you want a better sound, IMO it pays more to spend money on studio acoustics, speakers and converters first.
Here is a gear list to give you an idea of what I am not using any more:
Yamaha GA32/12 32 channel analogue mixer (not used)
Soundcraft K1 24 channel analogue mixer (Used for monitoring and routing)
Alesis Andromeda (Used occasionally)
Korg Z1 (Used very rarely)
Korg MS2000 (Used occasionally)
Access Virus B (Used occasionally)
Waldorf Pulse+ (Not used)
Yamaha FS1R (Used extremely rarely)
Yamaha A5000 (Not used)
Novation DrumStation (Not used)
Kurzweill K2600 (sold)
2x BOSS VF1 (Not used)
Lexicon MPX100 (Not Used)
3x DBX 266XL (Not used)
Focusrite Compounder (Used Occasionaly)
Orban Co-Operator (Not used)
Yamaha ProR3 (Not used)
Drawmer DS-301 (Not used)

Sure I think spending some money on some good compressors and maybe harmonizer is the way to go.
an La2a and maybe 2x1176 and an h8000 would definatly make you stand out .....

Well, with all due respect apart from the synth you have the rest is not high end analog gear... and its certainly not as good as many good plug ins out there.
Pom if you go hardware then go high end. your sound will change. I find very easy to mix with high gear.
on the other hand EQ are pretty good on plugs look at the wave ssl or urs or pultec from uad. this is great stuff. of course you could some really nice solid state eq like the neve 1073 which is just amazing especially the cuts, very musical. but how many of them can you afford ? one -two maybe...
You could of course build your own for a fraction of the price. Uad neve they really take the piss price wise. I' m building at the moment an La2a an a dual 1176 ... its puzzle really cause many people outthere came up with schmematics and tips to make it sound even better than the original.

That's probably why I don't use it. Lol. I actually started listing the synths and then just wrote the rest...

Absolutely. It is only worth buying analogue gear if it is high-end AND you have good converters to reap the benefits of using such gear.
Still, unless PoM has good acoustics, very good monitors and good converters, I really think spending any money on outboard gear for sound is not the best idea. You will get much more out of your mixes if you can hear exactly what is going on. It also makes mixing much much easier.

Like everyone said, get a good pc, acoustics, sound card and monitors before you get anything else.

Just going a little off topic here..
Seppa, where do you find the schematics for the hardware equipment? Is there a place where I could find the schematics for just about every sound gear or is it actually very limited (manufacturers only release them after they're obsolete)?
That's something I'm interested in doing because it really costs a fraction of the price, and if the schematic are good, you will get quality gear..

Yes there is: http://www.prodigy-pro.com/forum/index.php
My advise is to start buying a pcb at first and when you become more experienced maybe design one.
THe la2a is a very popular piece with diyers.
drip pcb v2 is really good and the pdf on how to build it is very well explained.
http://www.prodigy-pro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21012&highlight=la2a+pcb
you can get a case from parusha , again you can design yours but maybe at first this is best. also this case are really good looking. I just ordered 2 today.
http://www.prodigy-pro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19428
Generaly you'll find all the info on this site. you'll alos find link to other audio diy site.
An La2a will cost you around £300-400. its nothing when you know the actual price of an la2a :£1800 |

hi pom
what's your current kit?
as undertow already said, unless you've already got a good computer, monitors and decente soundcard, i wouldn't be spending money elsewhere.
after that, remember that acoustics are also a very important part of your studio.
if you got that sorted go for a synth, not that it might be that useful in a modern studio.
remember that'll probly need a midi interface and some inputs in your soundcard to use it wisely (dont think about an outboard mixer to mix the computer and the synth as you'll surely regret it).
make sure your computer handles the sound input from the synth alongside your projects, you'll want to add vst eq and compression alongside with other fx to whats coming from the synth.
i also have some synths and they're manly gathering dust guess what i use everyday in my studio: my computer, soundcard and monitors
  roll a joint or STFU :) |
