hey there, does anyone know of any good tutorials, or offer brief explanations, on how to make different kinds of synth fx used in psytrance tunes. I'm well accustomed to a synthesizer, and I can make decent kicks, leads, pads, as well as UFOs, talking basses, fat squelches, sonic binary and wet squelchy psy farts... I'd like to broaden my library of synth effects, in particular effects that can be primarily accomplished on an FM synth, but new sounds on subtractive synths will also be handy.

In return I can post up some of my collection of sylenth and massive presets. which I will do soon.

Thanks

Sorry I didn't understand a point: can you make these different types of sounds, or you can get them with presets?

Considering yes, that you can and know how to create these types of sounds from scratch , then to the fx part:
On FM leads, distortion sound amazing Try with several types of distortion, overdrive, saturation, etc., and you'll get different results. And, as a result, you make your synths scream out!

This technique has been used over and over, but it still is amazing. Try automating the distortion parameters, and you can make a really nice and pretty FM-style lead go from crystal clear sounds to screaming all over in your brain! Perfect for building tension (or automate in the opposite direction, to create release )

Another trick is automate the FM settings -> you'll achieve a wide variety of timbres like this, play around and record a stem, then mangle the sample around to get really nice glitch effects - sounding different every time, but somewhat similar (as the carrier signal is the same).

Considering no, that you can achieve all these types of sounds by starting off with a very similar preset, then stop using presets!! Learn how to sound design and make stuff from scratch, learn how to take an init preset of a synth and transform it into what you are thinking of - learn which settings does what, and how they behave together!

IMO, the best tutorials for leads are here: http://forum.isratrance.com/the-mother-of-all-leads-thread/

If you want anything more specific, then you'll have to ask a more specific question
