Hey there... Just getting started with this music production thing. A friend referred me to using Ableton Live so I'm starting with that, might branch out to something else in the future but right now it's where I'm at. Been reading many people suggesting to use the Steinberg VB-1 VST plugin for goa basslines. I downloaded it from steinberg's FTP site and dropped it in the plugins folder, but it doesn't work. When I try a few notes it just makes a really loud buzzing/whining sound and nothing more. Anyone experienced this before? What to do about it, just walk away from VB1 and find another bass synth? I was really looking forward to using it because, well, it's FREE...

Thanks

It works fine mate. That's what the VB-1 actually sounds like

i'm with e-tard, just dump the damn thing... there are lot's of freeware synths that are great for bass... reFX claw for example, or muon tau bassline, or synth1, or crystal (although this is a very complex synth, u can strip all modulation, go down to just 1 voice, stop the fx, simplify the envelopes and u can perfectly make a great bass-sound), or juno-6, or ....

for melody try crystal, synth1, superwave P8,... all freeware

look around, u can fill ur pc with freeware in no time...

OK, well thanks for the advice and the tips... I have been reading through the mother of all bassline threads getting some ideas. Was just wondering if this error had occurred before for anyone, ya know.

I have experienced the same issue as well gattomatto. One of the reasons why I stopped using the vb1           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

gattomatto, I had the same problem when I first installed VB-1 so I just left it there. A month later or so I loaded it by accident when I clicked on the wrong line of my VST list. Suddenly it worked fine. Unfortunately I have no idea what changed ...
