I need some advice on what kind of equipment would be great for getting starting on making some hard-hitting psy-trance. Also for ambient as well. I only know some of the stuff out there like certain midi controllers, interfaces, plug-ins, effects etc, and if there are some that I should avoid. I'm not asking how to make psytrance because thats purely up to the individual but some suggestions would be awesomee. thank yaa much!

for a starter but serius on learn to make proper tunes than...

a pc ( core i7-i5 desktop or laptop ) look around 1000e

monitors - adam a5/a7 500/800e

audio interface - presonus firebox, terratec phase x24 about a 300e preferable a firewire card.

a 2 octave midi keaboard with some knobs on it about 150/200e or a 4/5 octave if you do know a bit of piano playing.

so its about 2,500e for the basic hardware with cables and a good ups.

+about a 1000e for the software more or less.

or go h20.. but than its a crime.

All you need to go from having absolutely no knowledge of anything, to being able to make full tracks in a couple of months time:

A computer made in the last 5 years,

A link to Tom Cosm's site: http://www.cosm.co.nz/,

A copy of Ableton Live (or insert favorite DAW here, but Ableton is fucking tits, and Cosm shows you how to use it from the ground up),

An Akai APC 40

Monitors (read the monitors thread)

Audio Interface (stay the fuck away from presonus if you ask me, I have an Audiobox from them and the support is horrible.)

A link to the isratrance most-useful threads:

A lot of time.

Seriously, 6 months ago I literally didn't know what BPM or 4/4 meant, and I had zero music background other than knowing that I love the shit out of psytrance.

Now I have ~7 tracks up on my soundcloud that are full length and while they might not be great, I think its an amazing testament to the power of this community and others like it to enable someone to make music.

Oh, and for the moment if you are truly just starting out, I would advise against doing what I did and downloading a shitload of plugins and synths and just throwing them together - if i was starting over with the knowledge I have now I would have just worked with the ableton native synths until I had enough knowledge to understand and utilize other synths as opposed to throwing hours away preset browsing and not learning shit.

good luck!
