Hi guys, i m just new to all this world of production and never tried mixing cause i was using shity ipod speakers so for me was nonsense trying to mix anything. But today finally i got the right cables and have installed my monitors. Well i will skip other sounds and go direct to the bass and kick. When with ipod speakers everything was ok, but now everything sounds too bassy, dont know how to explain, its like kick and bass is a big HUMMMMM HUMMMMM like for instace:

k bb k bb k bb k bb =
HUMM HUMM HUMM HUMM

I am using fruity parametric eq 2, is there any better eq or everything is the same? And where should i start eqing those two? should i start first twaking the synths again ?

thankss           ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``

remove the sub frequencies (20hz-50hz) maybe with high pass filter and notch down some of the bass where it hummmms
probably its around 80hz-250hz , find the problem spot           www.sattelbattle.com

when removing sub frequencies(on the kick) ; i always cut the highs around 30-40 till now.Is high cut reasonable or is low shelf a better option?Or is it only a matter of taste?.. i still dont have any good monitors here.

Yes. Very dependent on original sample. Some kicks need no EQ.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

i would let the mastering engineer do that and use lowshelf and/or peak filter insteed in the mix (less phase shift ,sound more natural than high pass filter,i think the time relationship between harmonics is fucked up resulting in a less tight sound ) with monitoring that are acurate so low you can hear that highpass filter can do more bad than good ,linearphase eq can work better for that but it depends how they are made, some smooth transients but it can sound good too

i m really in a strange area. I twakened a bit the parametric eq 2 and it improved a lot, my bass i cuted a hipass on 50hz, and give it a boost on 336hz with 9dB, at least for me now is good but i feel that it can be better, but dont know how to make it better           ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``

sorry mate, whats the difference between low shelf and a hicut??

and when you guys speak about hipass, do you mean with a hipass filter, or just do a hipass in the parametric eq?           ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``

Try adjusting the bass's ADSR too.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

@ becktrank
look on google ,even wikipedia should have right detailed descriptions how it looks like etc.
A cut is always radical and a shelf lets a bit of the other frequencies through,or makes it smoother.
Wish ya much fun with mixing mate.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

kkkk sorry, i will check at this topic. anyway just wanted make people talk about mixing.

One thing i m finding is when i hear the music in my headphones (not good ones tought, ok ones) is that someparts sounds little different, lets say somethings sound louder etc then the monitor. but the overall is not tooo different at least is the same music kkkkkk
but i think it can be my room acoustics, its in square form, and just noticed that one of my monitors is next to the wall, to better say, its just at the corner...this is bad i think           ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``
