Oh yeah i forgot to add something...the audiophile firewire doesn't have a mic preamp...but i'm also buying a tapco 6306 mixer so that should get the job done right?           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

I guess this gonna be to late......but:

Stay away from the Firewire 410.I had it and the drivers are a mess.
I wouldnt go for the edirol as well (not direct experience but mate's opinion).
I use a Indigo,the drivers are excellent,rarely crashes.

echo indigo is a great compact sound card.....tried it but my laptop was incompatible to it. so take that in mind as they say the echo's are compatible for all, but they are not.
i have the edirol UA-25 and it serves me great!

Dunno if there was some sort of conflict with my laptop (genuine P4) but the same happened to 2 almost everybody i know they tried it (included lots of ppl in forums).
Basically the driver either wasnt recognized at every boot up of windows,or was crashing programs like Ableton more often than normal.

I know the soundcard is not comatible with Texas Instr. chips but mine wasnt.

Btw I envy u i wish i could make one of those soundcard work on my laptop coz the specs are just what id need for live sets.
