well, actually it should be 100/100: 100% of what you can do both creatively and technically

i love the tracks and parts that create themselves.
sometimes if i have a nice muse i can sit on a track for 10-12 hours straight, and basically when i listen afterward i have no idea how i did all that, it sorta just happened

This is why our first virginal music tracks are sound so shit . I say 100 % technique when the 'Heart' Already plugt in .
When things become to sound , The 'Heart' is not the place - (Mind and ears first) , Its nice some times here and there for mello pads (I made even atmos from the mind by seeing the 'Movie' in my head but without any feeling - Im trying not being Involved at the emotional side , I think in that way .. When you out of the story frame and picture , and 'Wach' it , The all global strory view from out , Thats make your life be eazyer - You can see more details in more clearly way , Same as the big life , I think if you let the music control of you .. You can be some times confused and miserable) . But i dont know if there 100% answer for those interesting questing of yours because most of time we cant realy see from where 'Ours life points' are realy come - Heart , Mind , Sure when all is mixed and blend with drugs and those so all is an big party and you dont know what's
realy go's inside of you and the truth is that most of the time peoples dont realy care about they are just living they life and miss that important point that let you know better who you are and what yet you have to keep and improve , but thats ok too .
I think i go with 90 % for the mind/technique and keep some 10% for the heart .

I don't understand. Are you saying that when we first start making music, messing about with the sequencer, finding out place etc. it sounds shit?
Well, I kind of agree - my mixing was total qhack when I first started. That takes years of ear training and practice to perfect.. BUT I have to say, listening back to my early stuff, it had more originality and crazy ideas than anything I do now.
It was pure experimentation.. melodically, rhythmically, effects-wise.. it was totally off the wall. Most of the time it didn't make a complete song or flow from one idea to the next. I believe my main problem was throwing in too many ideas and not sticking to an overall theme. Musically interesting, yes, but not typical mainstream structure. Literally bursting with crazy ideas - that with a bit more thought and experience could have been worked into full tracks!
These days I have far less whacky ideas and stick to tried and tested method. Ideally, I'd like to capture a bit of both worlds!

imo the ideal would be to master the technique and then be able to use it without thinking too much.
just like driving
on inspiration the ideas popup naturally.
the heart gives meaning to music.

200/100
Technique is useless if you dont have the heart or better yet creativity. It would be like being a mechanic instead of a musician.
The natural way is 1st you have talent then the technique comes to help you accomplish your creativity. Some say you can be a musician just by studying music, that is a lie that has done more harm than good (you can apply this to all fields of art and science). You have studied math in school does that make you a mathematician? My point is talent must be with in first, all the rest are mere ad ons that will come naturally.
Cheersss!

Heart at first period for finding sounds, sequences and rhythm you would love to work for, then comes mind to solve structure and do some tweaking. |

100/100
first 100% to learn the technique on how to make it sound nice, and then 100% heart when I make the music, the 100% mind sort of become part of the subconscious, it's like riding a bike, first you have to learn how to ride it, once you know hoe to ride a bike you forget all about the technique and simply enjoy the feeling when you race down a hill...
