After reading all posts ....

I have Senheiser HD 265 since 96 and they still last
for sure Senheiser and BeyerDynamics get the reliability contest...

Nowadays Senheiser has some killer headphones; for music production HD 650 take the lead they are supersweet for long hours use and the most accurate of the bunch ... But like someone said try to reduce the use of headphones in a day to day situation...I got my Tinnitus problem with extensive
use of headphones over the years ...

For music making I have the Grado SR-80's. They just rock. The frequency response is quite flat, clear and being open cup, the sound is very spacious. They arent expensive either (something like $80-100).

The ear pads can be a bit unconfortable in the beginning, but I've used to them now. There are replacements for them, too.
