that is of course unless your ear gets smashed by e.g. a 2khz wav that is simply too loud to handle.

Mind you, 5 khz (the frequency of the cry of a baby) is the most audible frequency to us humans...

5Khz? never hear that before, considering that A-weight filter is supposed to represent the general curve how people interpret sound and its also based on the fletcher curve and they based their research on diagnosing young recruits for the army in the 30´s. So general speaking and by looking at the curve i say its 3.2 Khz, our most sensitive frequency in our brain.

My teacher called it a spike.
5khz resembles the strongest frequency in the cry of a newborn or very young human infant, and that is the frequency our race picks up the easiest! It is a very annoying experience to hear that frequency very loud.

u heard 17hz? I thought below 20 wuz felt more than heard...sismic waves earth shattering quakes etc.
as for this topic,,,anything and everything is ok in moderation it's the abuse to one thing long periods of tiime that do the damage, like smoking like drinking like cannabis like anything sugar etc etc etc
Moderation - sweet as a nut
abuse/mistake - ain't ok 1-3khz @ "excessive" DB ,,also like elad said one nasty blast of feedback loops in your headphones is the REAL danger to damage
