Headphones or speakers while producing?

Hello everybody.
I was wondering if you people use headphones or studio monitors/speakers while producing(I guess both). Lately I've moved to another town where I'm living in a flat which is too sensitive to noise(neighbours knock very often), so I can only produce with my headphones. Last week I started a track, worked with headphones and sounded perfect...when i got back home(on weekends) i played in my passive monitors(which sound good) and the track sucked!!!:@ The kick and the bass was so bad, I expected it but not that much!

i use both. 95% headphones, cos i work at night, - and final mixing and mastering tweaks - 5% - on monitors.

Such scheme for last 2 or 3 years.

The more I work, the less corrections i need to make...

So that's quite ok, all about how well you know your gear.

Although, I wish I could work on speakers all the time...           http://soundcloud.com/aedem

you can't work only with headphones, i too have a neighbour problem. what i usualy do is build the fundamentals with my monitors so know i have a good enough mix when i begin then swich to headphones. its very frusterating to work on somthing a long time and see that you have to change the bass for example. and when i put in a new sound i turn my monitors on to see how it fits. headphones are great for arranging but suck in mixing. also it is very important to hear your mix at high volume with the monitors. in low volume you can't hear whats happening in the low frequencies.           http://soundcloud.com/djtuk

Low volume is good for testing if anything is protruding from out a mix.           www.wizanda.com www.soundcloud.com/wizanda

100% monitors
if i had good headphones i would use them only for listening to the reverb of my mixes, which lacks due to room acoustics

True!
Actually i like best to mix at low volumes..
and turn up the volume to hear how it sounds loud and where it starts to break..(hitting the ceiling) if does that too early i know i need to mix better and cut more..

It's all about both.

Once I think I've got something sounding good on my monitors, I check it with headphones... especially with kicks, bass and snares.

From my experience stuff that sounded good on monitors it did on headphones too while vice versa no. Good said up there headphones for arranging(Y). When having both I keep trying in both...but I've noticed that the tracks I worked more on monitors sound better.

Cheers though.

Psytrance is not headphones music.

Only use them for reference. Only for reduced amount of time and with low levels.

Get good monitors.
I only use phones past midnight.

Both Mackie HR 824s and Alesis Mk2 M1 actives. I can bang out music anytime in the day or night in my new house. This is why I pay so much for it.
