I'm looking into getting a pair of headphones for producing in at night when I can't be loud, so I need something that is acurate throughout the frequency spectrum.
I was looking into the beyerdynamic dt770 pro's, does anybody have any experience with these? Are they good for producing with? The look comfortable too so thats good I guess.

I personally thin HD-25 are nothing but loud. soundquality? In my ears thats a word that makes no sens to use in conjunction with them.
They are good for hearing the rythm, kick, hihats, DJ phones cause they are loud and kick.. but soundquality? -----
I'm looking at these at the moment. They are sealed have good isolation and sound relatively good. For live use.
Beyerdynamic DT-770 pro
AKG K 271 Studio
AKG K 181 DJ (have to hear them first)
But for Studio use I would go for open construction.. Had to check first. But pioneer, sony and technics.. I don't know which exactly you are talking about.. but I never heard a pair from that manufacturers as good as my sennheiser HD-600. (which still have weaknesses)

I own the 171 and I must say that they are nice headphones for djing. The tight closed design keeps even pa lvl sounds out well, so its easy to concentrate on beatmatching. And they can go quite loud ...For use in the studio I must say they are just not comfortable enough for long periods of wearing. I would go either for a slightly larger AKG headphone or consider getting the Beyerdynamics, which are nice for studio use.
Quality of the AKG manufacturing is really good. They put lots of years of experience into their designs. Only thing I noticed on my pairs after years of heavy usage is the leather getting crumbled and "dry". But you can get any sparepart for these headphones or even hand them in for service/maintaince.

I just bought a pair of AKG 181 Pro DJ Headphones and they are great.
Light and comfortable, seem robust enough. They cancel quite a bit of background noise out also.
Sound quality is excellent. We had my AKG 181, mid range Sennheiser and a pair of Pioneers at a party over the weekend and my AKG`s stayed plugged in all night. The other three DJ`s playing were very impressed with my AKG`s as I am. Great frequency responce which is btw 5hz-30000khz. Bass boost and mono select buttond also. Cheapest ive found have been $350au but I was lucky and got a deal on ebay $242au delivered.
Hope the above helps.

I have 2 Sony MDR's reference series headphones (one the 7506, I forget what the earlier model is)and they have served me well. One is over 10 years old, and despire having to replace a frayed cable on it, they still work well. The sound is both are deep & lush. They have decent sound isolation, and I paid $120 for my first one, and only $80 for my second. The little vinyl coating on the foam will flake off over time. I have yet to see any headphone in this price-range beat them.
I think the Sony DJ model headphones are crappy & way overpriced (esecially those silver MDR-V7000), and there is a variety of lesser MDR models which are also crappy. You really have to pay attention, as they are not all created equal.
While I've never tried them, many reliable sources I've encountered over the year have recommended the HD-25's, and I would certainly check them out if I needed another pair.

There is no such thing as a reference headphone, its just a marketing gimmick.
music is supposed to be played on speakers anyway. |
