usually people think about this before they loose it, and use things to backup files.
there's many tools for backing up your data.
(norton's ghost, CD, DAT tape, RAID etc.)
in case u lost data there's a chance that the HD had a problem ( e.g. because of a voltage jump some tracks were burned/scratched - this data can possible recovered only with a microscope and costs lots of $$$)
i know somebody who lost a soundtrack for his movie this way.
the tool you're talking about can help in case the HD is functioning properly (the data is lost due to software failure - filesystem didn't manage to write all the inodes - in case of power failure).
unfortunately this is not always the case.
bom.

yes I know how important it is to backup but we all getting to a point were we just don't backup everything and loose data. it happens to each one of us once in a lifetime. for me it's the 3rd time
I just couldn't backup. was too much of data. the burner did problems and till I got it fixed I decided to sell it to kick scsi cause I needed the pci slot. it also took me time to backup cause backuping isn't just hitting record. normally I'd prepare the burning to a certain category etc.
and doing that for 80GB is VERY time consuming.
so till I got everything prepared my HD started giving me mft error messages, got stucked and booted. till it actually died and now windows just can't start up while this drive is connected. although the bios recognize this hd.
so I believe all the data is still there and only the file allocation table is ruined.

if you're talking about FAT corruption ....
it's a bad thing.
in the FAT all the addresses are stored, so if the FAT went off ....
R.I.P. the data.
Dreamer .... 3rd time and still you didn't get the point ?
cut down the dosage ))))
BOMski
n.b.
backup - you don't have to BU all the data once in a while - simply burn new music & image projects ( in your case) to a CD after finishing each project. - it isn't as time consuming as nerves consuming now.

I second that Trip... those big monsters always have problems.
bilbo, it's NTFS. FAT can't be more than 2GB. but no biggie. most of the important projects were backuped.

thanks
but those companies take way too much money.
around 600-800 dollars!
anyhow I suceeded recovering 43GB!
by using an app that does it.
I just had to delete the ntfs partition so that windows could load with this hd connected and then recover.
but... now that I have lots of stuff recovered - my (totally new) burner is not working....
ah nm yihiye tov. =)

about this easyrecovery.. if you deleted just now some important stuff by mistake you shouldnt use speeddisk or defragment before using easyrecovery.. |
