How good are they? Anyone with any experience?

Bad experience...
Have made a couple of tracks using them, and these tracks sounded awful on monitors or elsewhere.
The reason is that they sound "too" nice - very beautiful and colored lows and highs...
Nice for listening and DJ-ing though, but not for monitoring.
IMHO
Also, they are closed, so it's hard to work for a long period of time.

? Are you serious? Please explain, as this is opposite to my experience with my 'closed' monitors.

Well, I can work for 5 - 6 hours in my semi-open AKG's, but with Sennheisers I got tired after 2 - 3 hours. Maybe this is due to the shape of my head, don't know
But it's a common thing that for long usage open headphones are more comfortable than closed, isn't it?

I use AKG240s.....Nice headphones...great for mixing. no ear fatigue at all.....
The low end, you have to compensate since they focus more on the mid and high range.....they are flat and have no color, but that is perfect for mixing....semi open....
I have a friend with the sennheisers you are referring to and I would never, nor would he ever use those for mixing...listening comparitively or for enjoyment, definitely.....
I recommend the AKGs...
assumption is the mother of all fuckups. |

So from the above... Does this mean I can't effectively produce psy with ableton live?

it means that they will do a great job on the stuff that a headphone can do...

I have the HD 280s, and I love them...For listening to music. They are *very* colored in the high end. I saw someone give the same advice on these forums a while ago, and I was like psht whatever, these headphones are great.
But then.... I got my pair of monitors and I was absolutely amazed at the difference...
I still use the headphones for production, but mostly for arrangement or experimenting but never for balancing a mix or fine tuning bass/eq
