How can I make/ where could I find hats that are good for Goa?
Also, what are common placements for hats for goa?
I've always done closed on 1.1, 2.1, 3.1, and 4.1
And the Open on 1.3, 2.3, 3.3, and 4.3
How loud do you generally make them in relation to each other? I usually have the closed hat quieter than the open.
But I've heard them doubled in speed, but when I do that it sounds messy and rushed...
Also, how can I make snares and claps that have a goa feel?
Thanks |

I agree totaly with free flow!
I started my journey into trying to make goa not too long ago...
I used to sit in my chill out place(my scape from earth), with a pleasant joint and listening to goa trance for hours... Studying it.. understanding it's magic... What a pleasure that is... enjoying and learning... i do it every time. (not just goa, any style)
I might not be able to create that transcendental style yet,
BUT, i understand it from the bottom of my heart, i know how it works..
In my opinion that is really important...
You could listen to artists that you admire, study their music... see how they construct their perc., harmony, everything.. let their music inspire you..
And then you create your own, distinctive sound...
That's goa for me...
Goa trance is allways unpredictable, mystic... anything works if it makes you go into tranze..

The TR-909/TR-808 have been used extensively in old Goa tunes. In case you are looking for those classic samples, you are looking for those Roland drum synths.

Thanks for all the help.
I'll look into 909 and 808 samples packs I've found in other threads.
It's weird though when you're not trying to listen and dig them out, the hats lines sound really different from when you're listening normally. I wish I could just isolate the hat track
thanks again |

i've never compressed claps, but some samples that I use now sound compressed, but it gives them punch.
I think it would help if someone had some steps to make drum samples sound punchy.
compression is definitely a start.
infected mushroom drums for example sound like they are punching out of the speakers... the song becoming insane for example |

Mild compression with some of the transient let through will help it cut/punch through the mix. You could also look at a transient designer. |
