tried this yesterday (swing on hats) and remembered that I've done this ages ago... and it sounds super!
I like to use battery for hats, or any sampler that allows envelopes to control the panning. I place my samples pretty much center most of the time - but also use the envelope to pan the end of the samples so they move in the stereo spectrum. Works well with reversed hats and stuff.

A closed hihat without swing is not a proper closed hihat!
Glad I could help.

Sidechain it to the kick, and swing is hidden under the 'setup' button in your quantise menu. Add what % you want to what setup you want (1/16 1/32 etc) and store it.
And you're done

so this is a way strictly for midi files yeah?(swing in quantize menu)
Couldn't apply it to my bounced material.
Very interesting though. https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden |

It can be applied to audio aswell. You can add a preset through the setup window. Press the 'Store' button when you have chosen the amount of swing you want to work with.

I like the panning envelope idea using Battery, but I like to route my sounds to different channels on my cubase mixer. Is there a way to use the modulation envelopes and lfos in battery if i'm routing the sounds to different channels?
because i'm trying to put some light bionic delay on the hats and I don't want it to affect the snares and claps too.
Maybe I just have to bounce those out? www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page |

i don't know if u speaking about my Track intelligent system ...because when i check your link it showes me the Brokentoy release...
In intelligent system i used 2 different closed hihats ...
one is on every 16th ... and i played a bit with the velocity ... specialy on the kik i lowered the velocity alot ... and panned it little bit to the right ...
the second one is set on some 16th ... but nowhere on the kik (and allways on the 1/8) ... just play a bit and move them around ... and panned it a bit to the left ...
then i made on both of them a highpass in the eq and cutted some of the resonancing frequencies off ...
on both channels have a little copression to make them sound a bit more in the mix ...
what i also use is a shaker with a stereo delay 100% stereowide ... it just gves it a bit more room as well ...
something very very important is what sample u choose ... not only in the cymbals ... any sample wich is not good quality will lower the quality of your mix ...
I mostly use Vangeance Samples for Cymbals ...

Swing, shuffle or groove refers to placing some of the dumhits or notes off the grid.
In 16th for example you'd shuffle mainly those "weak" steps between the beat and the off beat.
You can do it manually or using your DAW's swing quantize. In FL just play with the "SWING" slider located at the top of your pattern editor window.
Have fun.

In FL try putting a Hihat pattern and drag the swing slider, then rightclick the channel and take it to pianoroll now you will see the swing pattern..
Then if you are not happy just delete and do the procedure again, remember you must do all patterns to pianoroll when you are satisfied or else swing will concern everything.. |
