And how did you overcome it?

Ok so i started something a little proggy type tune yesterday and worked it till about 4 mins in and started with what was supposed to be a pretty atmospheric padded and acid lined short break before it kicks back in and keeps on going, however i got carried away and put in a pretty heavy and fast paced/ climbing break which peaks pretty solidly and ends with the all to regular 1 bar silence before the track is supposed to slam back in,

Now my problem is that i am now at a complete standstill and cant come up with anything to keep the intensity that the break produces over to the next section of the song!! I sat for 5 hours till about 3 am this morn (had to work at 8 ) trying to make something of it but i ended up not even saving those 5 hours of work as it was all shit and nothing worked..

So here i sit at work, tired, without being able to think about anything else except how to make it work which is only drawing blanks. I feel that all the creative direction i had in the beginning, that was working so well, has now been lost..

Anyway to pick up the path and the pieces again?

Any light as to work arounds to this type of situation will be most appreciated...

PEACE

start something new and don't think about it anymore (and don't listen to it anytime without working on it!).
after a few weeks come back and retry and if you fail, repeat this step as long as you came up with something good (sometimes never).
good luck           http://soundcloud.com/seamoon

I usually make several (main) parts which can stand alone but have equal power(or atmosphere). At the end is the time to make breaks because you have so much 'building parts' and phrases/samples/sounds from the rest of the song you can figure out a way to keep the power more easily.           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

Maybe you've written the end of the tune before the beggining?

I do that all the time.           .

'xactly.

Some of us write linear, and some of us don't.

Thing is to figure out how to make how you write work for you.

I'm trying to get more linear as I think it helps me write more flowing and logically laid out stuff... but if the tune is already getting really big right at the start you are making a rod for your own back in terms of mix room, and writing.           .

i make a good loop (30sec-2minutes part usualy)
then decide in what time in the track i want this energy and then its easier for me to build around that..
so if i have very powerfull loop and i feel crazy i can put it on 1:30 - 3:00 and this meen the track will rise higher later , and sometime same loop cxan be used as peak of the track in minute 5 or something...
my friend Optical human usualy start the track with the first sound and then the second sound and not have kick and bass untill he want it to hit in ... i always start with kick and bass to know the cale im after , and its intresting to work with diffrent peaple , its all according to taste and habit          www.sattelbattle.com

Very good ideas guys

Try playing the track to people you trust (not necessarily producers / engineers), sometime a small remark might trigger an explosion of creativity..

I'd recommend (too) to take a break from the project, fill you head with other things and then come back 2-3-4-5 or as many as you need weeks and revisit it.

Good luck m8           YEEEEES!

Remarks from other really help, from anyone, even the one who doesnt listen to that type of music..

5 weeks is to long for me to wait.. 2 weeks is time you should leave finished track to rest.. I take a break for day or two and then after I'm fresh I start pumping.. If I take more free time I lose initial feeling and end with something totally different.. The best is to do most important parts in first run and than just polish that after a rest..           http://www.myspace.com/djacidkills

Thanks for all the ideas

Still aint managed to decide on my next move yet and have been playing around with a few ideas that have arisen from all your comments (many thanks)

Left the track alone on Saturday and Sunday, purposefully, and am planning to revisit it tonight to setup sight for completion..

P.S Elad.. The silence to just Kick and Bass seem to be a winner ....

Thanks for the help

Peace

Sorry to bring up an old thread but i wanted to hear your thoughts on how i did to combat the dilemma i was faced with. Hopefully i did ok and semi pulled it off.

What do you guys think. Issue was the main build going into the next section.

Not really my style but the titl "serendipity" pretty much explains this one.

Look forward to hearing what u guys tink?
