I don`t have a musical degree but I have a degree in music-therapy. During my studies I learned a lot about music and theory of music tho. I recommend this free book: http://tinyurl.com/2cp8u (how music really works)           www.myspace.com/mentris

learned 3 years of music in high school (bagrut for the israelis here) . covering basic theory, harmony, analysis, classical music and jazz history , etc.
and learned sound engineering. (2 years).

and about classical music and trance having very little to do with each other i disagree. sure its harmonic structure is 99% very simple but the basic harmonic steps are still very much alike. just more simple. and the usage of motives and meldoy variations is very common and at least to me it sound like it originated from the classical traditions.
(u also have IM which defintley understand 1 or 2 things about chord progression and structures. )
i guess knowing music in theory and being able to anazlyze complex music pieces (or even "simple" ones) is recommended to anyone who wants to make music not espicially trance for that matter.

there are some books i can really recommend:

- Mastering Audio ( Bob Katz )
- Modern Recording Techniques ( David Huber )
- Mixing with your mind ( Michael Paul Stavrou )
- Dance Music Manual ( Rick Snoman)
- The Mixing Engineers Handbook ( Bobby Owsinski )
- Mixing and Mastering in Cubase SX ( Craig Anderton )
- Get Creative with Cubase SX ( Keith Gemmel )
- Behind the Glass ( Howard Massey )

Where i can get those books or something like those books in ISRAEL ?

I think www.amazon.com ships to Israel. That's where i got most of these books. The book "Mixing with your mind" is an exception, you can order this one via a website: http://www.mixingwithyourmind.com/

I have an audio engineering degree. It might have been part of the reason for getting the job I have now.

well UnderTow, you're the exception rather than the rule. Studios are dead. at least in the US.

Now taking an audio engineering course of study for one's own personal enrichment is another matter.

you don't have to go to SOUND ENGINEERING school. I studied composition (both instrumental and electroacoustic) and now I work doing music and sound design for video games.. consider studying MUSIC
