i got nord2 and since i have virus b i use it heaps less..
anyhow i think its more cause the virus has its own effects while you need to add them to nord from other source.. (daw or virus or multi effects)
anyhow nord sounds always great in the mix , rather then in solo.. weird magic or total placebo?

How can u add virus effects to nord?? Do u route the audio thru virus from nord? Tell me how =)

Well, first I should say I have never owned my own hardware synth but about a year ago I spent a lot of time looking hard and hours in the store trying them out (In the end I just didn't have the money for hardware, especially since this is just a hobby for me). The virus was good but I never learned how to build patches properly. Since it is so versatile it has so many menus and so many different knob assignments. If I owned one I would probably have the time to learn it and it wouldn't be as bad as I think, but from my time with it I found it to be a bit of a bitch to program.

I also looked at the Waldorf and it certainly sounded great but again, the programming was a little annoying. But considering how lean and compact the Waldorf is it was surprisingly easy to get the hang of it.

The ease of use is what I loved most about the Nord (I was looking a lead 2x). A very simple design with nearly everything right out in front of you. I think the Nord really shows that you don't need a big pile of modules, effects and controllers to get mind bending sounds. That said, I think the Nord is more focused on making its characteristic sound and can be hard for making different sounds.

Another thing I loved about the Nord right away was the modulation and live performance controls. I think this is really what makes the Nord. After playing with the Nord for only about 30 minutes I could make a patch and assign expression controls in less than a minute and be playing. I think that it really beats out the others in that regard. I just couldn't figure out how to get such intuitive expression controls on the others.

As for sound, the others sounded great but I found it hard to get that morphing organic squelch that the Nord has. The others probably can do it if you put some work into it but the Nord just seemed to always give you what you wanted with very little time spent programming.

I might be biased because I just love the Nord sound, it is my favorite! The Virus and Waldorf seem to be a lot better at making big trancy outer-space sounds, which is good but not exactly what I usually like. To me the Nord sounds like a liquid metal belly dancer and I just can't get enough of it!

Yes! It´s obsolete!!!!!!! I will gladly take it off your hands for cheap since it is obviously not modern and software can do just as good a job

i think a bit the same , with the virus i was using lot fx and in the end the primary sound of these patchs is almost the fx and not the oscillators anymore if it make sense, while with the nord it was often the oposite for me,i was not using it very wet with tons of fx most of the time .might be a reason we find the virus more suited for these big trancey leads cause it sound great with tons of fx but for killer raw sound i m not sure it really shine.

Dunno, i haven't got any experience with either. Though after seeing his blofeld videos i'm really tempted to get one. Just wondering if it'll complement my TI well.           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

waldorf say it s the same engine i wonder what does it means hehe ...could be only for marketing, largo is a bit the new version of komplexer .(that was coded by some waldorf guys if i m right)

imo it will complement your ti well and maybe replace it for many sounds depending of what caractere you like the most

Jexus is so wacked..make sure to check out the video that he takes his blofield to the zoo..His videos are great to get a real feel for what a synth can do outside shitty presets.

I don't know if its just the DACs but the lovely overdrives and distortions don't sound the same IMO on largo.

the dac might color a bit the sound but if the distortion sound different it s maybe than the hardware run at higher sampling rate than the software or maybe they made some shortcut in the code to save cpu but have no idea..

they sound close? better on the hardware?

I'm stickin to my Nord!
When comparing its oscillators to any softsynth or even my Virus Ti Snow, it just sounds sooo much better.
It's saw osscilator is a tight, thick, rounded, stable sound.
In comparrison it makes all my softsynth and (unfortunately) also my Virus 'sawtooth' sound like buzzing cardboard.
Or how about that insanely deep chunky pulsewave, with a bit resonance on top, it produces.

As well check these Nord demos:

I see I made a mistake, as I meant this video as the 2nd demo:

I found a nice Lfo-bpm map on the web for the Nord Lead.

http://electro-music.com/forum/phpbb-files/bpm_170.htm

By clicking shift + Lfo waveform, you can see the value of the Lfo rate.
